Quart every thousand is not real bad. dealer prob would not mess with it. I know for a few years some toyota cars around the 2000 year mark had an issue with with the oil rings carboning up and seizing. Think it had to do with a change in gas formulation around that time. This would cause them to use oil like crazy. My daughters 2004 corolla did this about 3 years ago. It was almost like someone threw a switch, and it started to use oil like crazy. A quart every couple of tanks of gas which is more than a quart every thousand. I googled the internet and read a lot about the problem Ordered a re-ring kit off ebay. When I pulled the engine and removed the pistons you could see right away the carbon buildup had frozen the oil rings. Did it all my self and the car did not burn a drop until she sold it a few years later. It was a great chance to justify buying a cherry picker from harbor freight and to get myself a really nice torque wrench. The cylinder hone was a free loaner from Autozone and the instructions all came straight from Doctor Google and Mr You tube.

I have a slow oil seep from the valve cover gaskets. I have the kit just need to motivate to fix it. Maybe this winter.

Yeah, truth be told I don't have a feel for how much oil it takes to actually see a cloud. Like you say the smell should be apparent, though.

I had a friend in highschool who had this beat up ford that we would (half)joke that it burned more oil than gas. He'd top it off every time he got gas.

But even if no cloud, the tailpipe is pretty much the only other place it can be going if it's not dripping on the ground.

I know what oil smells like when it’s burning but it’s not that

It may just not be high enough concentration to smell it. If it's not puddling on the ground, the only other place for oil to go is out the tailpipe.

Check your oil and coolant to see if it is milky, but that's typically a head gasket or a cracked block and you'd be overheating.

I finally got time to look at my engine. All the bolts on both sides toward the wheel wells were loose. I tightened them down and it doesn’t leak anymore. I will take it to my garage and have new gaskets put on and have him replace the Pcv valve. Thanks for all the replies

Awesome work man. I love it when a DIYer does a big job like this themselves and save themselves a couple grand easy.:D:cool:
So many are scared to do the littlest thing for themselves on their vehicles.
This is one of the most beautiful stories I've read yet today. Saved a nice 'Rolla from an unnecessary part out early death
