Just some basic ass 3M ones is what I wear. You can get them at any hardware store. I buy them in bulk since they’re cheap. Put on a fresh pair once they get scratched.

Safety glasses have gotten so much better in the last 20 years

I am in the habit I put them on when I walk out in the shop take them off when I come back in.

If at all possible wash them off with water to get the grit off otherwise you will just scratch them up.

Like welding hoods you need to find what brand and style your comfortable with otherwise they won`t get worn.

I like the Jackson brand I think I have a few boxes laying around

I gave welding a try for the first time today. Some of my employees from another facility were breaking down and re building (different design) some 2x2 square steel stubing racks. I asked to give it a shot with the stick welder and using some 6011 rods. These guys didnt necessarily get a welding degree or certificate, they just learned by doing and getting guidance from someone else who already knew how. Given that info, I just went at it how they do, mask, short sleeve and no gloves. This shit is fun and you can make stuff out of it! The first few minutes I had trouble getting the “spark” to keep going, but after a while I got the hang of it (not necessarily welding, but keeping the spark going). Anyways, a hell of a lot of sparks flew and Im feeling it in my arms now lol. Guess Imma be here bothering the crap out of you guys now!

I'm fabricating a 8ft tall xmas tree for my daughter to put outside to make all the neighborhood jealous and possibly be stolen as well.

Not gonna lie, I'd be a little pissed if it gets stolen, mostly cause my daughter. I'll just anchor it I guess.

Put it off the ground on some plastic and make it electric so it shocks people who touch it. Nothing says Merry Christmas like a little skip of the heart.

Welded for the first time today with my El Cheapo Titanium Easy Flux 125, 0.030 wire. Bought a passive hood, a set of brushes for the slag, and a long sleeve shirt. Here's how I practiced lolSnapchat-94975685.jpg
And here's my best practice weld:Snapchat-696627511.jpg
And then I went straight for my truck with an angle grinder and made a bro diesel style axle dump for the heck of it.IMG_20191114_231341.jpg

Any tips for making the welds nice and pretty?
