Another noise thread

because it's close to the end of the warranty and is still a problem, possible start a ticket with Toyota corporate to document the problem?

 

Gets better yet. Dealer just called that it won’t be ready. They changed the upper idler and still has the noise.

supposedly, “at Toyota’s direction” they’re ordering the other idler and tensioner (lower was replaced last week), as well as a new belt till they figure out what the issue is one piece at a time.

he says there’s three other 2016-2017’s in the shop right now with the same insurmountable noise issue.

I could “hear” him winking at me over the phone that when my own 2017 goes into the shop next week for oil and alignment, to mention a strange pulley noise that comes and goes. Because my ‘17 comes off 3/36 end of this month.

 

Sounds like they’re on the right track with the idler pulley bearing and/or tension adjuster and belt.
I would do a belt replacement after a bearing failure because the added friction can stress it and cause premature belt issues

I heard my ABS when I stopped on a patch of ice this morning. Sure does work good on the ice.

 

Could that be the high pressure fuel pump TSB for 2017's? Sure sounds like it.

 

Well. The latest from earlier today is that they’re replacing ALL pulleys, idlers and belt per corporate. We will see ! Waiting on parts still.

 

OMG! And they’re pretty much replacing everything else!!! Is there a pulley on this pump? Must be.

 

No. Sorry. It's just inboard of the rear of the passenger side valve cover.

 

Well, we’ll see if replacing every pulley, idler and belt solves the problem, or, if the tsb/fuel issue is it. I found the other thread and it sounds like our problem to me.
