To start off, this is on a 2017 TRD off road MT with 40k. this issue has been around since about 20k. (miles) So I have been trying to track down a clicking noise in my front end (giggity). I have replaced the front radiator body mounts and have nut and bolted the whole front end with a torque wrench and yet I'm still getting a random clicking/ clacking noise when going over dips at slow speed. It seems worse in 4wd but that could be that I'm going slower and usually have the windows down so I hear it better. I thought it was spring slap from the shocks but it only happens under compression, I thought that maybe it could be the lower control arm bushings (still an option but the nuts are torqued properly) but today I was just grabbing and wiggling things around and noticed that both of my CV's have a decent amount of play...like 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch. Not in and out of the transfer case but more up and down and side to side. is this normal? Im not afraid of the truck falling apart and at this point its just an annoyance that I hope doesn't turn into a bigger issue. I have a video but my damn phone won't upload it.

To add to it, i had it checked out at the dealer while i was still under warranty and i got the famous phrase "we cant replicate the noise".

I kind of have the same noise in the front/left area after the replacement of front bushings. Sound more like glass rattling than metal and only present when driving on rough roads.

Most of us take our trucks to the dealer to be diagnosed when they are still under warranty.

Yea thanks. I know a screwed the pooch on that one. I didnt press the issue with my dealer when it was under warranty because it wasnt too bad and i guess in my mind i wrote it off becaise it happened only rarely. It started to get worse over the last 3k miles to the point where its started to annoy me. I have an appointment in a week to get it checked out. I have been on shitty dirt roads more in the last 3 months than i have been in 2.5 years before that. My main question... is it normal for a cv to have that amount of play in it? Can someone go grab there cv and wiggle it around where it comes out of the transfer case and get back to me?

    All the things!
I'd try removing the sway bar. See if that cures the noise. My sway bar was rubbing on my radiator supports.

The truck should still be under the factory warranty so you should still be good to go.

It’s hard to tell about the wiggle without seeing yours but the dealer should find it.

The transfer case is on the rear of your transmission...the CV axles go into your front differential.

Having play in the CVs is normal especially on the driver's side. If it's excessive that might be an issue but without a video or seeing it first hand its hard to tell
