So my dashboard backlight bulbs in my 2003 Tacoma stoped works a while back. Obviously this is problematic, but I’m not sure if it’s the bulbs that are bad, or the wiring or something. The symbols are all fine, but the clock and temperature indicator bulbs are all off. I’ve replaced the fuse, that didn’t help, and I’m not sure what the problem is.

Where should I buy the new bulbs? Or should I take it to a dealership, I watched a video on how to replace them and it doesn’t look that hard.

I would buy bulb from dealer and install yourself. Pretty straight forward IMO.

I have bad luck with auto parts store bulb not lasting.

Bulbs are cheap and every part store stocks them. It's not something I would pay a dealer to do. It's stupid easy.

Definitely a DIY project. Take care around the plastics not to scratch or break anything and you'll have it done in no time.

I recommend bulbs from one of the major producers only -- my 2003 Tacoma has Sylvania (Osram) LL "long life" bulbs sourced from Walmart if I recall correctly. The red silicone covers on the bulbs are easily removed and replaced to keep the same color of panel illumination.

Replace all of the main illumination bulbs while you're in there. Four of 'em, I think. They're cheap and the ones that haven't burned out yet are on borrowed time. The warning/status lights get *much* less use and rarely burn out. Those don't need to be replaced.
