Man I was always assuming powdercoat but there are some good points being made for going bare metal.

For those with powdercoat, what products would you use to touch-up rock chips/scrapes?

How many cans of primer/paint is it taking everybody to get 2-3 coats on?

I just picked up a new set of Victory sliders. Being able to touch them up after they inevitably get scratched/dinged is a huge plus. I've never bedlined any of my skids before, but I am very pleased with the rustoleum spray on bed liner. It self leveled nicely, provides a small amount of grip, and can easily be touched up as needed.

    1) CLEAN all debris/oils off sliders
    2) Two coats Rustoleum self etching primer
    3) Two coats Rustoleum semi-gloss
    4) At this point, my wet dog decided to shake all over the fresh paint and I decided to clean again and top coat with Rustoleum spray on bed liner.

I went the route of rattle can as well. Cleaned all the oil and junk off really well, did 2 coats of primer and then 3 coats of black. Holds up well and is easy to touch up. Scratches and gouges don't turn into rust under the finish like can happen with powder coat.

If they are bolt on, there are lots of surfaces that likely won't ever touch a rock. Getting a good coating on those mating areas between the sliders and the frame will go a long way to helping prevent rust. The areas that do see rocks are easy to touch up.

I've rattled canned quite a few sets of sliders and a few bumpers. I don't know how you all do it. It's a pain in the ass. It's really difficult to prep the surface well and it always seems to be to cold or too humid for the paint to stick well.
