    Alpine must not be a good choice for upgrade speakers :notsure:
    there are lots of choices out there, sometimes overwhelming

    Any name brand speaker is an upgrade over stock. The more $$ is not going to be better than the less $$ if you don't have the head unit and amp to get everything out of it. Being a truck I don't see the point in spending all that much. I've found high end speakers at the junkyard that are still going strong and sound way better than stock. An aftermarket head unit is a must IMO.

    Im running Pioner head unit and Polk audio speakers from Amazon, like $30 a set. (Double cab) Also a Kicker powered 8 inch sub under drivers seat and a 300 Rockford Fosgate 4 channel amp crossed over for mids and highs.
    More then enough stereo.

    Unless you're an audiophile (judging by your question, you're not), brand does not matter.

    Almost anything being sold today is going to sound better then your 15-20+ year old OEM speakers.

    Go to crutchfield (linked above) and just pick something that fits your budget (they're good about figuring out what fits your truck, too).

    That said, honestly, the main limitation to your sound system is the power of the deck itself. When I put in my Kenwood deck like 20 billion years ago, that alone made a vast improvement in the sound, even with OEM speakers. The stock decks are simply under powered, and can't push the speakers to make good sound.

    So, again, go to crutchfield and pretty much anything there in the $100+ range will be an improvement over the stock tape deck, lol. I'd start with that first, then get your speakers.

    I hate to be that guy but if you're going to be swapping in some quality speakers, Im going to assume that you have upgraded the deck (receiver) as well. If so, there is no reason not to run one of those compact 4 channel amps. They run $50-$150 but are super compact and put out low heat. I've seen people run them in the dash before.

    I installed a Pioneer double din, after adjusting the eq and crossover settings I'm happy with the sound from the stock paper speakers.

    Those are like 60 watt (180 peak) speakers. What 500 watt amp are you planning on hooking up to these?

    I had 6.5" in my doors, which I cut to use 6x9s. 1" tweeter and passive crossover replaced the stock stuff. All Rockford Fosgate, running off a 100x2 amp. I have 2 MTX 12"s in a custom box behind me running off a JBL 600x1. Pioneer head unit.

    I went down this rabbit hole too: Stock speaker + stock cd radio= meh 1/10 --> 2x $40 Pioneer 3 way 6.5" speakers +stock radio= 2.3/10 --> $70 (walmart price matched) Bestbuy Kenwood KMM BT322U bluetooth digital media player + Pioneer 3 ways + $40 craiglist used vintage kenwood self powered sub = 5.6/10 --> Kenwood Bt322u + $70 Amazon warehouse JBL GTO 609c 6.5" components + $40 craigslist used Alpine KTP 455U mini amp bridged 90w x2 + kenwood sub = 7.6/10 --> Kenwood Bt322u + JBL 6.5" speakers + Alpine mini amp + sound deadened doors, extra cab walls, and back wall= 9.3/10. I'm not a audiophile but I'm particular.

    If I could do it all over again I'd just do a good headunit (with DTA and built in crossover), good amp to match your speakers RMS, good 6.5" components, compact sub, and sound deadening all one shot so you don't have to keep taking your dash and doors apart.
