Which is why I still do mine in the 500-1000 range on new vehicles. An extra $100 bucks for peace of mind on an expensive vehicle.

That's really cool OP. That's very comprehensive.

I had all the fluids analyzed at 30k. Not to this extent, but better than eyeball tests.

My Toyota dealer did a reasonably thorough check using paper test strips and a stopwatch, jotting down the numbers. The transmission had the most particulates but was surprisingly clean.

I was a little disappointed the tech didn't recommend a lube systems flush with Wild Turkey, because that would be the first truly bad ass thing to happen to my truck, but I was still happy to learn where things stand.

I think they charged $45 for the lube tests, but the truck was already on a lift...

And I am going to use Pennzoil 10W-40 because my Dad did, and his Dad did. And... I will change it every 3K miles because it gives me "piece of mind" and I can afford it.

Sending my Blackstone today for my GT3 RS.
Question: the outer mailing label, do you only write the unit ID number created ?

Do you mean the USPS sticker? You shouldn't have to write anything on that.

Not to mention that most people who send their oil into labs like this are oil change nerds to begin with, and likely meticulous with maintenance, so good numbers relative to *these* people is even better. :burnrubber:

I floored it on my way out of the dealer (to break the power train in) with 6 miles on odometer and have changed the oil at 10k intervals. Just did my 40k change and it runs great:D:stirthepot:

    @CoTacos

He changed it early at 3,980 miles, then again at 10k. I always run synthetic in everything, and go up to 10k change intervals on my Taco, Tundra and Sequoia

Just throwing this out there, anyone who drives their vehicle hard in hot climates and severe conditions should bump up to a thicker viscosity, min 5w-30 or 0w-40 for better protection. I highly doubt you would be able to notice even 0.1 mpg difference for those who are obsessed over mpg.

Don't plan to support a business telling me how my oil or engine is doing. Did it for 30 years without their engineering expertise. Never blown an engine.

Changed the "break in" oil around 1000 miles (although I've read that they already use break in oil in the factory). In all honesty, gave me a chance to learn how to change the oil filter etc in my new truck and drink a couple beers in the garage away from the wifey.

Currently using 0W30 for the added viscosity. Probably doesn't make a huge difference but gives the engine a little added protection when throwing mud around off road.

Can't deny the facts. These synthetic oils have a lot more longevity than we used to believe. Feel way more comfortable letting the oil go 10k, plus its not so bad not having to crawl under the car every 3-6 months to change the oil.

Several months ago I changed my filter and oil using my last 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 0w-20, which I had in the garage.

I also had a couple of 5 quart jugs of 5w-30 which is what our other car uses, so I added 1 quart of 5w-30 to the Tacoma for the oil change.

Tacoma World, what do you get when you use 3 quarts of 0w-20 and 3 quarts of 5w-30.

Is it 2.5w-25 or 0w-30? Or, 5w-50 for those who just like to add the numbers? ;~)
