Cool, I have a 426D my parents bought in 65.
Old Coleman Parts is the best for parts.

Just got back from a centennial hike at Grand Canyon. My new Big Agnes Fly Creek suffered a broken leg the first night. Duct tape and tent stakes to the rescue.

    Nice 426. A 413 with another burner.

That’s a bummer. What happened? Looks otherwise like a nice setup.

Wow, if I dropped that much coin on a tent and it suffered a failure of that nature right away, I would NOT be feeling the love...

I bought it in May, used it for the first time two weeks ago. Took it back to REI yesterday and exchanged it for an REI Quarter Dome SL 2. All I paid was tax on the new tent. Another reason I like REI.

It just bent (and then broke) when I was setting it up. It makes me wonder if it might have been damaged in shipping and I just didn’t see it.

I’ve used mine a bunch and haven’t had that problem. Mines the bike packing version though so the pole sections are shorter which might stress each piece a little less when making the bend.

Mine’s actually the bike packing version as well. I think it was a fluke.

I wasn't trying to bash Big Agnes, I own a lot of UL gear, including some of theirs, just making a general observation. ReI does take care of people.

REI's return policy is so generous I don't know how they make money. Seems like a lot of people would take advantage of their one year no questions asked policy.

On the UL topic, it's a tough battle between the stuff being light but not being weak. Everytime I use my BA tent I'm afraid I'm going to rip the door zipper off. I'll take an extra couple seconds opening or closing the door or fly in exchange for pounds off my back though.

Your not bashing anyone but if you where it wouldn't be Big Agnus. It would be DAC. That's who BA uses for their poles. There's not a single tent manufacturer that makes their own poles. DAC has taken over most of the industry in the last few years. I think MSR and REI still use Easton as there supplier.

Light weight comes at a cost of strength. The thinner the wall the more likely a small dent will become a complete failure. I've broken poles before and to me it's always how the company handles it. 10 years ago I snapped a pole on my Mountian Hardwear Hammerhead. I was in the Gunks on a trip so I just field repaired it. I called MH the next day and explained the situation. That call was placed at 4pm on a Thursday. Since I was away from home I had them ship the replacement pole to the local gear store, Rock and Snow. I got a call at 4pm the next day from the owner letting me know I had a package. Sure as shit it's my new pole. MH next day aired it to me along with a return label to place the old pole in so they could look at it. All this cost me nothing. I've had many similar experiences with MH and I will always place them in the go to gear category.

Then there's Marmot. They refused to warranty a pole on a 9 month old tent without even seeing it. Guess who will never ever buy anything from Marmot again? Guess who will also tell all his friends this story around every campfire he ever sits at? Guess who hopes they go out of business for the absolute lack of support they give for their products? Not that I'm bitter or anything. lol

I had great customer service from Marmot. I think it depends on the agent sometimes.
