BoxCanopy: 8020 canopy/bedrack concept

I'm sure this has been done, but has anyone on tacomaworld built a bedframe or canopy out of 8020 extruded alum?

i've been messing around in Sketchup designing a basic box canopy utilizing 8020 3030, these are the 3"x3"ext. alum pieces with 5/16th(or M8) taps. Was going to connect them with 1/4" alum brackets & SS hardware

I primarily use my canopy for light duty work, nothing serious.

Of course a lot of work to get it to be water resistant, but doable i think with alum angle, c channel, rubber gaskets, etc

what i think makes this sort of think really interesting would be to keep it entirely "open source", where people could share mods they've built with one another in a clear, concise way that allows others to personalize their own box canopies . Windoors, tool boxes, roof racks, various rear door styles, various window setups, incorporated cabinetry, various mounts, roof options, etc etc just flip through a tslots, frameworld, 80/20 catalogue and you can see how many possible builds their could be

Really cool- all the diy frames I have seen around have been welded. Any idea of the cost of the 3030 and brackets for the most bare bones version?

 

about ~800 for just the 3030/3060 frame off of tnutz, before shipping

haven't priced out the brackets and hardware yet, partly because the L-bracket and 6x6 square brackets would need to be made. Would go with McMaster-Carr for all the SS hardware. Figure at least another couple hundred for brackets and tnuts. Plus shipping probably 1200-1300 total.

I know some guys from the #vanlife genre use the 15 series for cabinetry, save on some money chopping up aluminum angle instead of buying premade brackets

Clear illustrations that show how pieces interact, clearly organized. I have TSLOTS's hard copy catalogue as well, and it has great info, its just not put together in a way that is as easy to understand for newbs like myself. Also ordered the 8020 catalogue and it should be on its way.
