New to the forum. Just picked up my first truck. Slowly modifying the truck. First thing I wanted to do was upgrade the led headlights. So I bought a set from astar but for some reason it doesn’t fit. There’s not enough clearance to get the led bulb without having to remove the headlights.

I’ve seen many you tube videos and everyone seem to be able to install it just fine. Was there a change in the 2018 versus 2019 model where clearance for headlight change?

it’s frustrating as I cannot replace the bulb and having to remove the headlight will surely be a pain. As I will need to remove bumper fenders etc. just to upgrade headlights to LED.

Any 2019 owners have issue replacing their bulbs to led?

Do a proper upgrade read this. The bulbs recommended are in post 2 and 3. Your actually downgrading with LEDs in your headlight housing.https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-hid-vs-led-vs-halogen-h11-projector-headlights.589465/

I am also assuming your mixing up the hi beam which is H9 and the low beam which is H11(that one is the outer most light)

No, not mixing up the high beam.

I bought these first, it definitely was too big.
    https://www.jdmastar.com/product/289/8TH-Gen-H11-LED-Headlight-Conversion-Kits-Set-of-2.html

so I returned it and bought this which is much smaller and is similar to the size running4tacos and a few others I see on YouTube use. But ran into the same issue. No room, hits the metal piece that’s right in front of the regular lights where you unplug the bulb.

    https://www.jdmastar.com/product/793/NX-9012-LED-Headlight-Bulbs-with-Fanless-Design-Set-of-2.html

so frustrating but I will try that DDM led lights you suggested. It definitely looks smaller but just weird that the ones I bought where I’ve seen other 3rd gen Tacoma owners use doesn’t fit.

just really concerned that the DDM tuning LED lights might not fit either. They look identical to the JDMastar second link I sent. Same size

They fits perfectly on my 2019 and my buddy’s 2019 as well. The light pattern is awesome. Nice clean cut, not all over the place. Well worth the money. I had doubts about it at first too, but I ran into this video. I was lucky that DDM is local where I live so I drove to the store and bought a set for myself and one for my buddy

Man I just got the ge h11 +130 and so disappointed. The light is Identical to my stock lights. There’s no upgrade. Still yellow. Was hoping it would at least match the the DRl but it’s looks like the stock lights.

the point of upgrading was so I can get rid of the ugly yellow lights. Stock lights seem to shine better than these GE

Well based on that thread above seems like everyone was going with the GE h11 +130. To me I find the stock lights shine better than the GE. That’s why I’m disappointed.

They shouldn't be less bright than stock. But yeah, they are halogen so they will have the same yellowish color. If you're looking for brightness and want to change up the color, look at an HID kit. Brightest lights of the bunch, but cost the most but are not instant on/off.

Odd, my GE 130 were a lot brighter and no where as yellow as my stock bulbs. I say for $30 the GE are worth the upgrade. Were home before dark and we rarely drive at night but if we do its in the wifes Lexus.

I too went with the GE +130, but was disappointed about the abysmal life span, so I removed them and installed Diode Dynamics SL1 LEDs and I’m a happy camper.

Can you send me a link to DD SL1? They offer two different kind. $75 and $180. Which one did you go with?

I had the same situation. All I did was remove the 2 screws on the top of the headlight housing and pull it out enough to get the bulb in. No problem.

If you really want a GOOD set of LED's, get Auxbeam GT series H11 for low beams. They are F*(&#@ bright!!! Pic is low beam only no fogs.
