To be clear, when I said sand/repaint I wasn't meaning a quick & dirty job with cheap paint supplies from the local hardware store, although relatively speaking I've seen good paint jobs done by spray cans with quality mixed/matched paint, but for something like this that is not the path most folks go.

Sounds like you're wanting to tackle this yourself, but I'm not sure what your capabilities are as far as skills, experience, tools, etc.?

A DIY job by someone with zero painting experience/skill, agreed.

my roof is getting worse. Always garaged, washed, waxed, never been to a car wash.

I am considering color matched supplies from this outfit:

    https://www.automotivetouchup.com/

About $200 shipped for everything, including mask for use with catalyzed paint.

Maaco wants $450 w/no warranty due to rust, and they will use spray can primer. They want $750 for full quality paint, still no warranty.

    What do guys think?

I highly recommend Raptor bedliner. A friend of mine has it on his desert toy, a 4Runner. That truck does some rock climbing and gets blasted by sand and gravel constantly. It has no chips whatsoever and it was done about 5 years ago. Raptor doesn't have deep crevices in it and can be applied very uniformly. I'll be doing my roof and a few other areas with it.

So wax boys why then are the hoods going too - they get the best wash and wax. Clearcoat vs sun.
The roof clearcoat failure goes up and over the top of the doors too so complicates the fix as no good place to stop.
I notice under the door windows on the horizontal clearcoat starting to fade also so in effect all surfaces horizontally orientated.
Darker colors happen faster as you would expect. FL and hot/humid/sunny states fare the worst.
Others with no problem glad for you as for the rest of us it sucks. Just saying.
How about the blistering silver paint on the "mag" rims too while we are at it ha ha.
