I'm researching suspension and I noticed several of you had a Fox set-up, then went to Kings and visa versa. Just wondering why the change? I've narrowed things down to those two and just wondering if one of them is consistently better for a mostly street, light off road set-up for example.

Because too many people are not educated in suspension setups and follow “trends” too easily.

You can make both products work very well. It may just take more time/energy than what comes out of the box.

this has been an interesting question for me also. i'm in the middle of answering it.

i have a 2017 Pro truck with the TRD Pro Fox suspension. it was almost perfect for me, but not quite. it couldn't totally handle my E range tires due to weight, so i had tire dribbling on the highway above 60 when i'd hit a sharp bump. while the tire is dribbling for the next 60-100 feet or whatever my steering is weak due to lack of consistent contact. but as my Foxes have aged (at 57k now), they have lost most everything and need a rebuild badly. i contacted Fox and Accutune Offroad both and asked questions about it.

seems to be the opinion of the experienced that these Foxes will not be as robust as i need even if i revalve them during the rebuild. it was suggested i look at more robust shocks like 3.0's. Fox does not have 3.0 shocks for the Tacomas, and at least the Fox CS guy told me there are no 600lb springs available for their 3.0s on the Tacoma, so i can't go with Fox because of that. i run light and won't go to 650lb springs. i only run sliders and a skid, no added weight from bumpers.

i ordered a full set of stage 3 King 3.0's with ext res and bypass with adjusters. that's basically like going totally nuts on it. these may need some assessment time and a tune, hard to say. ordered through the Headstrong group buy for King & ADS (still going on), and saved almost $700 on them. probably a month out, looking forward to seeing how it goes.

You do realize that there are hundreds of people who run E rated tires rather successfully on these setups right?

yeah i spend as much time on this site as you do. of course i see that, how could you miss it?

but i also run my truck totally differently from anyone else i've seen on here. so i have my own plan. their definitions of a successful setup (to use the term you used above) is apparently not my definition, so i'm going my own way. because as i said the Fox 2.5s have not controlled my tires enough, and are not adjustable to do it as i want.

No that’s valid. Everyone expects different things out of their setup. I don’t fully understand your complaint, or better put, I don’t agree with what you think the solution is. That doesn’t mean you’re wrong or I’m right. It’ll be interesting to see what you come up with.

right on. i don't know what's coming either. i haven't had Kings before. Foxes didn't do it, although close. so I'll find out and that will be good.

the somewhat interesting thing is that most everything I've done to the truck brought up some pretty strong negative reactions around here from people who haven't actually tried what I'm doing. and yet every step has been a huge and solid improvement exceeding my plans & expectations. and that's why i was confident betting the house on these Kings. and also why i don't care about the doubt since i find it everywhere i go.
