Alternative to Yeti LoadOut box for recovery gear?

I want a box like the Yeti Loadout to leave in the back of my truck for recovery gear. I've used an Action Packer for years but it's a little too big and lightweight, would like to replace it with something more sturdy. The Yeti box seems perfect but $250 is a little steep.

 

I use this. Just put some 3/8 foam backer rod in the lid groove and its almost fully water proof.

I've never broke one. They also sell metal spring clips to replace the plastic ones if you want something stronger.

 

I'm concerned about mildew with the pelicans, they are TOO watertight, this will live under my camper shell in the bed.

 

My recovery/tool box - total cost $20, secure, sturdy, survived a war.. I can't really complain.

I'm with @Sixthelement. It's not like your recovery equipment is fragile or temperature sensitive. Just buy a bin at wal mart or home depot and you can replace it 20 times if it starts to crack 5 years from now. I just keep a snatch strap behind one of the seats and d-rings and such under a seat.

 

Not sure how this compares size wise but I just got one and it is very stout.

Yeah right now it's all just in a 5 gallon bucket. But I may stop by wally world and just pick up a sturdy case.

 

@Bannerman I found that medium size Plano at Walmart. Was on top shelf above garbage cans. I know every Walmart is different though. Same case can be found at Bass Pro/Outdoor world and Academy Sports for about same price.
I fit, 2 30ft straps, 1 tree strap. Hitch recovery point w/D ring. 6 other D rings, soft shackles, winch line weighted blanket, ARB tire repair kit, gloves etc in it. Gets heavy, but its all there. Easy to take in and out as needed too.

 

That's exactly what I'm looking for. I've got a 30ft strap, a 20' kinetic rope, couple D rings and soft shackles, a snatch block etc.

If you live anywhere near a military town, you can usually find an ass load of pelican / hardigg cases for sale on craigslist for cheap too. Maybe be a little beat up and scuffed, but still work like a hot damn.

 

I've collected to much crap over the years and have a 56qt and 2 108qt Plano totes, rubber seal to waterproof and a Bull Frog anti rust strip keeps everything in good shape. The 108qt Plano has wheels on one end making it easy to move around when loaded up. They should be 25-30 bucks on sale.

 

Update: $15 Plano box (56Q?) from Walmart ended up working great. Thanks for the suggestions.

 

On the lid, the gap where the lid sits down on the box. Put some cheap foam backer rope in there or rubber tubing you have and its almost fully water proof.
