Arm rest broken - how to fix?

I have a 2006 base model Tacoma and the armrest on the drivers side has a crack in it below the surface, like the plastic below is cracked. I'm wondering how to fix this. Do I need a whole new door panel or can I replace just that part? I'm attaching an image. I see on ebay they sell these leather arm rest replacements, but I wondered if that was just the cover of it and not what is below, the hard surface, you know.

Go to a junk yard also called auto recyclers.

 

Yeah, this is a common issue. Mine cracked 6 years ago and I’m just careful now to not put too much weight on it with my elbow. The crappy part is you have to take the entire door panel off to get to it . That’s why I just left it

 

You only have to take the door panel off to repair it. Watch the video.

 

Someone on here did a great writeup on how to fix it. Do a quick search and I'm sure you'll find it. He did a really good job.

 

dealer wants roughly $500 for replacement panel (basically the whole interior door panel)

so this is well below par
& they should be sued for this shit! (class action)
250k tacoma trucks a year they sell, so there must be a lot of tacos out there in this state of broken
(2005-2015 x250k trucks = roughly 2.5 million gen2 tacos)
hopefully on the gen3 they fixed this shortcoming....maybe a gen3 owner can chime in

mine broke around 100k miles into ownership
Im at nearly 350k now, so thats a quarter million miles with a busted arm rest
not good

 

Theres a guy on ebay that sells a nice piece of fabric cut specifically for the arm rest and its easy to fiberglass fix the crack or plastic welding.

for what its worth, i side with @Muddinfun, door panel removal is quite simple.

 

How's that conflicting? Remove door panel - from the door frame - fix broken part.

I think the reason people drive around with a busted arm rest is because they watch the door panel removal video about 10 times and forget why they even wanted to remove the door panel.

Mine is disintegrating also. Lucky the fabric has held. I'll be doing this next week thanks to the DIY write up's.

 

Well this is a rant I'm having some trouble with...it failed 100K in? … and you've left it for another 250K … and it's Toyota's fault? … and a class-action?
