    I'll get roasted for this.

I don't think it is a transmission issue, as much as it is a tune issue.

For many reasons it's worth having one in your vehicle but for this case it would also be good to record the event if it occurs again.

Do you have the latest TSB for the ECU reflash on your truck? 04B04 is the ID - and in my case it completely solved that hesitation issue you described that was terrifying on a couple of occasions previously due to this very issue

I’ve never had that happen before. In fact, my 19 with 4700 miles in it shifts better than it did the day I got it. It actually feels normal now. When I floor it, the tranny shifts down quickly and the truck moves. Maybe something is wrong with your truck?

If you’ve read OVTune’s description of how the transmission logic works, that’ll fry your brain a little too. With all the computer logic these days, sometimes they just get ‘confused’ for a second before deciding what to do. And a second is all it takes to cause the pucker. It almost feels like a full pedal mash is counterintuitive to what you want to happen.

Even my Macan, which had a brilliant transmission, misbehaved once or twice. Never happened when I mashed it though. That always brought an immediate rev matched downshift followed by a very pleasing seat smoosh. The few times it did happen were pulling out onto streets from a slow roll and hitting the pedal aggressive but not crazy.

This fly-by wire shit can be really crazy sometimes man and the auto trans logic leaves a lot to be desired.
If you have the V6, get OVtune. It will blow your mind. I agree that the factory tune and shift logic are highly flawed but the tune addresses nearly all of the issues with both the engine and tranny.
Much cheaper than taking a bath and you will love your truck even more.

Similar foot to the floor waiting, then accelerated away happened to me twice in two intersections in succession. I told my dealer what happened and asked them to read up on TSB62-18 and I wanted it done. They did and the truck has never done it again, and shifts much better.

I have a 19 sienna for work that does this a lot. Never experienced it with the Tacoma. With the sienna if I'm worried about oncoming traffic when I pull out I just put it in S1 and it always goes.

I like how this guy says he lives modestly and can't afford to take a bath on trading in the vehicle but some are suggesting to regear as if that's the cheapest mod out there.

The OVTune suggestions are more reasonable though, and with a Black Friday sale I might have to see if I can swing it myself.

Right, because a long test drive will reveal all quirks, nuances, and potential issues which may not rear their ugly head until later on down the road with this or any vehicle.

That is like saying if I do homework for school I am guaranteed straight As just because I did it.

I lived with all these same problems, there were made better with the reflash, but after 37 months and 20000 miles. it wasn't going to get any better Love the truck not the trans.
so I traded up, to a TRD Sport V6 Manuel trans. now its a perfect Tacoma

I throw my car in Sequential (S) Mode pretty much every time I drive now. I almost don’t even think about it anymore and the shift points feel WAY smoother.

If I really need to get somewhere I’ll throw ECT mode on as well, but I don’t really like how the truck jolts from stop to start.

Curious as to the “learning” capabilities of the truck. Basically if I keep driving in S mode, the truck will eventually drive like that normally? I’m at 5K miles.

The auto lags bad, yes. Yes yes yes all is true with the lazy unresponsive throttle and constant up shifts .

but... but if you smash the heck out of the gas pedal ( to the floor ) it instantly will drop to the Lowest possible gear before the engine explodes at red line and the truck takes the hell off (faster than any boomer can down shift his manual ). This was true on my friends 2016 sr5 4x4 and my 2018 4x4. I recommended you u smash the living fuck out of the pedal next time, or drive in S mode like that one dude suggested...
