I would like to make an announcement.

Friday is coming soon, so we need to make a thead about which octane is better and all the participants of this thread should transfer to octane thread.

    It will be great.

And if they make it a sticky, we'll only need to point an OP with the same subject up and away :D

Me. I’d follow the manual. Don’t take what you don’t need.

    A) You do realize your truck has an oil filter, yes? B) Europeans were never changing oil at 3k or 5k with the "old oil" and their cars weren't blowing up left and right. You're doing nothing but spouting oil companies marketing pitches and "neighbor's uncles mechanics wives tales"

No offense but everything you've added to this thread is nothing but heavily (purposely?) misinterpreted nonsense. Your "dusty road" and "extended idle" points were borderline trolling. Combustion by products are just one of the reasons oil becomes no longer serviceable. You haven't given any proof, studies, used oil analyses, or literally anything that says the combustion by products build to an unacceptable level within 5k miles. On the other hand there are plenty of used oil analyses, studies, engine tear downs, etc showing that 10k is fine. Repeating and reposting the same thing over and over again isn't changing anything. Nothing in that article says anything about 5k, you're just making up a number.

You do you. Change your oil whenever you want. But unless you can show a study of used oil analyses, or a controlled test using different OCIs over the life of an engine, or literally ANY even semi scientific method showing that 10k OCIs are detrimental to an modern engine using synthetic, you're 100% just trolling at this point.

It makes me laugh that no matter what vehicle brand forum you go to they all have these 20 page oil threads... I think it is a conspiracy on the oil mob to make sure we are completely confused and just change it every month or 1K miles.

At some point a troll thread becomes a community service thread here at TW. We clearly have a burning need to say these things...forever...

I didn’t realize this thread was serious. I thought we were all just hanging out and bullshitting.

Aren't all discussions 10% serious and 90% BS?

Yep. But I think there were brief moments of seriousness. They were unexpected and jarring, but we ground them out and got back to the business of bullshit pretty quickly in most instances.

I’d say it’s more like 17% and 83%, but I change my oil at 7.3k due to marginal idling and light dust, so I’m a bit of a details guy.

But what does Wikipedia say about the correct mixture of seriousness with BS?

That’s the trifecta right there! The three most offroad-worthy vehicles when judged on towing and interior sound levels, according to TFL.

My brain has a continuous low level of BS, along with long periods of seriousness. That’s why I need a complete rebuild every couple years.
