Suggestions for a bed storage box for the necessities

I am looking for suggestions for a reasonably sized plastic tub or tool box that I can toss in my bed to hold the various must haves like recovery straps, d shackles, jump starter, and maybe a few trailer hitch accessories. I have a tonneau so preferably low profile but I am not looking to something particular large or intrusive. The ideal container will have room for the above plus a little more like flares, a couple of small emergency tools, etc. I think you know what I am looking for... Let's see what you got!

 

The best ones I've seen are the stackable Rigid boxes at Home Depot. https://www.homedepot.com/b/Tools-Tool-Storage-Portable-Tool-Boxes/RIDGID/N-5yc1vZc22aZ18g . They have all different sizes and they all stack and lock together.

 

I've always been a fan of the lightweight 24 gallon action packer, but I think you're looking for something like the 8 gallon baby brother found here. (coupon GEARUP2019 gets you 20% off until the 25th)

I have both the ActionPacker and the Plano Sportsman boxes. I use the ActionPacker for truck duty and the Sportsman box for hauling all of my heavier camping supplies. They’re both great boxes that’ll keep your stuff dry.

If I had to choose a box for the truck again, I’d probably go with a smaller version of the Sportsman box. The ActionPacker is a good box, but it’s made out of thinner plastic than the Sportsman. $0.02 of opinion

 

This works for me, for now. I was originally looking for something tighter between the wheel wells and possibly same height as the wheel well but couldn’t find anything

Do you have a link to that one? Does it have an o-ring seal? I live in AZ so it would be nice to keep the dirt out.

 

I’ll answer since I bought the same box. It does not have an o-ring but it’s easy to add one as there is a recess where one could sit. Reviews on Amazon have some pics showing people who used weather stripping. I drive on dusty roads all day for work and no dust has gotten into my Plano boxes. I was very pleased with that, I do not have it sealed.

I use these boxes to store hunting gear in the fall and added weatherstripping to seal them for scent control. Easily waterproofed/dustproofed by doing that.

 

Looks like it. I think the ones I posted have reinforced lids, which you can stand or sit on.

Big fan of everything MTM. I have a bunch of Plano Sportsmans Trunks but the MTM cases are generally a little more lightweight. Dry Boxes and Ammo Crates are the areas you want to look on their website. Amazon has most of these.

This is the best I idea that I could come up with when faced with the same objectives as OP. I’m actually very happy with it. The box is the smallest job site tool box that Ridgid offers, which I understand is actually made by Knaack and rebranded. The top of the box is flush with the bed rails. There’s enough room on the side of the box to keep a 5 gallon bucket that I use for trash. If you have a short bed, this box fits almost perfectly between the wheel wells (can’t fit bucket). It’s water proof and very secure. The rail system that I used to mount it can be added to with a lot of cool components. I ended up adding two points of attachment for other items that I may carry in the bed. Oh, and this box would be hard to get into or remove. Only downside is that is has some weight as compared to plastic options, but you gain security which was important to me. I have a 1’x1’ tackle box that I use to keep small hand tools in. Also have solid first aid kit, blanket, air compressor, shackles, tree hugger, snatch line, flash light and some other crap that I’m forgetting.

The chain you see is what I use to keep Fido from jumping out the back of the truck when he rolls with me.
