No, starting a thread on a topic that already has 151 pages of good info on that topic.

Information in old threads gets dated pretty fast. I did a fair bit of reading before starting this thread, which I believe I mentioned in the OP. Not sure who I hurt by starting this thread (other than you of course) but I am sincerely and truly sorry.

No offense but most threads on TW are clattered with dumb, unrelated, "smart ass" responses. Trying to find something useful, especially in 150+ pages may take a lot of time, IMO.

If my taco had that noise I would probably of ran it into a tree or traded it in by now.

Just a thought here...I keep my Tacoma pure stock including the tires and no howling at any speed. Neighbor down the road recently put wider off road type tires on his '17 Tacoma, replacing the originals. Now his is complaining about howling from the rear end of the truck at most any speed, yet never before with his factory installed tires. I wonder if there is a connection???? I guess the simple answer would be: Put the originals back on and see if the howling disappeared?

Tire thread design, tire air pressure, tire thread wear, terrain surface all have an effect. Think about it, tires are wind mills, throwing air all up under the truck and it maybe one of the reasons they have a rating for noise?
Try driving on the Pensacola I-10 bridge, spoiler alert, you'll swear your rear end is coming apart. Once on the other side, is how you spell relief!

Just went over 1k miles on my new '19 MT taco and noticed a howl this past weekend. Only when I let off the gas though otherwise it's silent.

Sounds like your neighbor has Tire Howling, nothing to do with the Rear Diff on his truck.

The howl started on my 2017 at about 1500 miles. At about 15,000 miles I applied Fluid Film to the undercarriage, for purposes of rust protection. Since applying the Fluid Film the howling has diminished to the point that I can very seldom notice it. Coincidence ? Maybe.

That’s a “howl”? I expected to hear something dramatic. I would characterize that noise more accurately as a “whine” ;)

They installed a sound deadening kit behind the rear seats. If you listen in really hard and turn the radio off on the highway you can kind of still hear it but it isn't something I notice anymore day to day. As far as I'm concerned the issue is resolved.
