While definitely an awesome box that would surely do everything I ever needed or wanted, it is just a couple inches too tall to fit under my Undercover Armor Flex tonneau. But, thanks for the great write up on it!

Shit, really? The box is flush with the bed rails...

Edit: Yeah, I guess it sits about 1/2” above the bed rail.

You could very easily cut the feet off and then paint it to keep the rush away.

those are the links of the one I posted. It’s the lighter version, 4 latches hinged rear and I guess not the reinforced lid. No oring and not sure if you could or not add one

Bilstein 6112 front / 5100 rear shocks, Headstrong AAL, Firestone airbags, 4.88 gears, OME Carrier Bearing Drop Kit, Tekonsha P3 brake controller, remote start, any-time-backup camera w/ front facing camera, Leer 100R shell (w/e-track single slot tie-down mounts for removable Yakima EasyTop), Husky liners, window tint, heated seat (passenger only.) Relentless bed rail brackets with QuickFists (shovel & axe) Hondo Garage Un-holey vent mount. CH4x4 switch for front camera and 'anytime' rear camera. Billet front mount seat risers. Bed mounted 4 lb fire extinguisher. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires. Custom Sliders.

If you don't find a better solution it appears that you could cut off the feet and grind down flush with the bottom of the box (then flush mount from the inside of the box.)

Lowes/Kobalt have a job box that is 18" tall:

Right after I got my Tijuana Taco I needed to swap out a propane tank and fill a gas can. I was pretty perturbed I couldn't tie them down stable in that slick bed. It's a truck, right? Just throw your crap in the bed and take off, right? Wrong. So I rednecked it good with these two milk crates. How are you stabilizing your milk crates Big Tall Dave?

Night time photo for added dramatic effect!

Standard duty Plano 108qt sportsman’s trunk for me. This one has all of my mtb gear in it. I will most likely replace this “sportsman’s trunk” with their “hinged storage box” with the reinforced top. The lack of a rear hinge on the sportsman makes opening the top while it’s tied down a pain. The added sturdiness of the reinforced top would be ideal since I usually sit on it while changing into my riding shoes, putting knee pads on, etc.

This one will become storage for camping essentials, and I’ll most likely add two more to the collection for that purpose. One for shelter, one for bedding, and one for kitchen/pantry.

This would be the only style I'd invest in, as anything nice looking would probably get stolen.

OP since you mentioned a tonneau i figured posting up something a little different. if you keep your tonneau on all the time then you don't really need a box... unless you remove the tonneau and still use a box of some kind.

i have one of these. it's quickly/easily removable. i positioned mine just behind the cab (not in the middle like in the pic), because my tonneau opens front and back both so i can access the storage directly. it's suspended so you can slide items under it. just a slightly different approach. i take mine out and use it maybe 10-15% of the time.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.

I’ve had this box in three generations of Tacoma’s. It’s mounted on a couple pieces of synthetic lumber to keep it from sliding around in previous trucks without rubber mats. It also has bike fork mounts if I need to secure my bikes inside instead of my exterior rack. It hold my travel tools, mini shovel and whatnot. My wife got it at Walmart many years ago but I saw same box there a couple weeks ago.

It was my understanding that the hinged sportsman was the original style which was not the reinforced lid. The reinforced lid on the upgraded/newer sportsman was in fact not hinged and removable.
