Chrome Killer II

Well, I took another plunge this weekend and did the BHLM. There are a few tips I can add to the mod, or 'gotchas'.

1. The fourth screw is not that hard once you feel it up there. I was able to get both off and both back on fairly easy. You wont see it, but you can feel it. Use a stubby ratchet to get it off.

2. The hardest part of the mod is pulling the clear plastic piece off after 'cooking' it. It is a mess. Do NOT grab the outside bracket for leverage. I snapped one off. I used epoxy to re-attach and it will be fine, but beware.

3. Best advice to give is to take your time. The only real trouble you can get into is being in a hurry. Since I have the attention span of a 3rd grader, that was my biggest challenge.

Next weekend I may do the bumper. Still thinking about the rims.

 

BRAVO Man...You are braver then I. I'm elbows deep in painting my rims and calipers...but I'm skiddish about baking my headlights.

I ay have to try it now that I've seen this tho.

I was worried about the baking too. It is not a natural thing to put a headlight assembly into an oven. Mine barely fit, literally 1/2" clearance on both sides. No way I could have separated them on my own. I had my wife help, although she did little other than holding it steady and cutting the adhesive.

I bought a caliper paint kit along with the Rustoleum Hammered black paint for the rims. I will definitely do the calipers, but I am still thinking about the rims. Not sure if it will look right. I may just wait and get new black rims and bigger tires.

I have 16 inch rims now, how big can I go without lifting the truck?
