Looking at a first gen 4cyl single cab 4wd some guy has for sale and the bed looks kinda long. Was there a choice of a long or short bed or were they all the same?

Reg cabs and access cabs were all 6ft. The only short ones were double cabs.

Another question i dont want to start a new thread for... Did first gens ever have locking hubs? I forgot to look at the hubs on the truck and i was wondering if it had locking hubs.

I have a third gen 4runner and it does not have locking hubs. I have never had to do any work on the hub bearings so i assume there is no lock out and the CV's turn all the time? I know For uses those vacuum actuated hubs and some jeeps use an axle disconnect but i dont know what setup 90's Toyotas used.

I think 95.5-2000 were available with locking hubs. 2001+ was all ADD. I think.

    (mine is locking)

ADD and manual locking hubs; both available on a 1st gen Tacoma

J-shift transfer case adds to the "manual" operation as you can also get the push button transfer case.

It's a 4cyl automatic what t-case would that have? The one in my 4Runner has a shifter for low range and a button to shift into high.

If it has manual hubs, j-shift IIRC

ADD can be had with a j-shift or push button.

Not sure if any were specific to any engine type as there were only changes to the output shaft/bellhousing/etc. when going from one motor to the next.

Just make sure to completely inspect underneath and all around for frame rust.

Afterward, you can attempt to see if the 4x4 works or not.

Ask for documentation for items done (if they were indeed done) like the lower ball joints, bushings in your steering system, and more.

As these trucks age, they'll have some much needed maintenance.

I'm pretty sure manual hubs were only for the 3rz for the years they were offered. One of the only drawbacks to the TRD truck.
