I simply grabbed a Pro VIN off Cars.com to order my OEM Pro grill. Did it right in front of the parts guy when I ordered it. Pretty easy.

As long as it says "PRO" on your paperwork, how do the posers lower the value of your PRO truck?

This reminds of when I wanted to put intermittent wipers in my base RC, but the dealer would always ask for a VIN and then tell me it wasn’t possible to put them in my truck when they got the VIN. I simply bypassed this by requesting a wiper control stalk for a 2010 SR5 Tacoma and got what I wanted.

Also, I know somebody who’s got a PRO. If I owned a non-PRO 3rd Gen and wanted PRO parts for it, he’d probably let me use his VIN. I don’t think it’s any Toyota’s business as long the cash isn’t counterfeit and/or the credit card doesn’t get declined!

Exactly this. OEMs are required to keep a certain amount of replacement OEM parts for XX number of years after a model is released. It has something to do with insurance companies and some laws/regulations. Once that time passes, the aftermarket and used market takes over.

That being said, Toyota dealers selling parts on eBay don't seem to care. I was able to get bronze TRD faux beadlocks for my FJ even though it wasn't the 'right' model.

Many dealers want a VIN no matter what because it saves them from the silly owners returning the wrong part.
