I knew what I was getting myself into. Other than just raising my payments $40. I was essentially restarting my payment history. Still happier with my new truck.

Life is short. Get what you want. I never planned on getting a long bed, but now that I have one I could never get a short bed.

Where? $12 total or $12 per month? Not in CA, its 10% just in fees regardless of the amount given on trade. I should say not unless they give him $40k on his trade and sell the new one to him for $36k. In CA regardless of the trade your still losing 10% on TTL fees. On that $36k truck you are spending $4k where none of that money goes to pay for the truck. haha

And because monthly payment can be easily manipulated. Dealers can match your payment goals and add another $2k to their bottom line and most do not have a clue. I said $400 for 4 years one time the dealer came back at $400 for 6 years. Running the numbers it would have been $6k more than I wanted to pay. haha

    True, even sometimes increasing both.
The other issue is cars/trucks are so expensive now. People don't bat an eye. $70k/$80k on a truck suv is normal now, work trucks mid $40k. The Mustang is now more expensive than some luxury cars at $50k+. People will bring in $10k+ a month as a family and pay $1500 in car payments rather than saving $2/3k a month. People wonder why they have no money and why they need to spend $300 a month on off property storage. haha

I was kicking myself at first for getting a DCLB after seeing all the off-roading pictures on this forum. I haven’t found time to off-road so I’m not really sure how the long bed hampers my wheeling ability. Although the long bed has come in handy hauling cement board, 10’ rake board and 10’ brick molding. Not sure if I could safely do that with a short bed. Bed length is subjective, you will find many pros and cons for either. If I lived out west though I would probably get a short bed and wheel every possible free minute.

    Link does not work.

    Found it.
    This is without TTL fees.
This $12 cost did not include the purchase of a new truck.
In CA and 2nd truck purchase(like the op wants to do) his thread would have looked like this:
    $27012+$2700 is $29712.
sold for $27000 and purchased new truck $29700
Total cost to upgrade would be $5,412.

average length of the loan going up but with that too the average price of vehicles continues to rise. People are again looking at payment and would like the keep the same $XXX payment even though they are going into a newer more expensive vehicle. Sure, you can upgrade from a 2015 to 2019 for only $50 more a month but now you are stretching to 75 and sometimes 84 months to get there.

As long as you are educated and know and understand and can justify the upgrade for $40 month I think go for it!

I work for Toyota Financial Services and am lucky enough to get good deals on employee leases. The truck I have now is a 2017 TRD Sport Access Cab with the 6' bed. I got the AC because I like the looks and think for the size truck it is proportional and looks the best. The next truck I get into come Dec I have been debating TRD Pro but am hesitant because of the short bed. I do not do much offroading at all, it would really only be because it is a bad ass truck. Like some have said, once you have the 6' bed it will be hard to go down to the 5' bed even with the extender. If I do not go with the Pro Id get into a DCLB TRD Offroad. I am leaning towards the Offroad because of the 6' bed and also it will be a bit cheaper.

I went from 2016 SR5 AC to 2019 DCSB with not regrets. I can haul what I need to in either.

Did you end up trading it in for a LB?

I'm having a similar dilemma, I love the SB..but I do a lot of camping with the family and hauling and even though I make the shortbed work I would love the LB for the extra space, but hesitant on trading it for more car payments.

I ended up keeping the short bed, I thought hard about it and thought if the time comes where I really need a longer bed on a regular basis, it would probably be best to get a bigger truck all together. I would've only benefited from the long bed 3-5 times in the last year, and I've made the short bed work every time. To take a $5k+ hit on trading it in for the longer bed it was kinda a hard pill to swallow, I plan on waiting at least a few more years until the 4th gens come out, hopefully then the upgrade will make me feel better with the added features too.

My v6 19 DCLB is slowly but steadily improving in overall mpg. I'm at 21.5 overall mpg in the first third of the second tankful I've put in it, so 3rd tank overall thanks to the dealer, and I understand it will keep improving as it ages a little more. I get 21 mpg on my 11 mile morning commute, and 24-26 mpg on the 9 mile evening commute (road construction forces different routes, and there are fewer stop signs/lights in the evening). Haven't driven many highway miles lately but last time I did was 26-27.

    My LB has no downsides.
