Were all fucked. Soon there will be a gaggle of terminators running around, what could possibly go wrong?
I think I need one, could be the answer to the "I need a clone" problem I've been having lately.

So who's going out for TG weekend. Im planning on Ocotillo Wells. It got some rain out there and likely again next week, should be epic conditions out there.

    So.... This just happened...

Story is... First non-Toyota old change was done at a shop in Vista by Pendleton and the tech ( older guy ) was pissed about from the get go because he had to take the skid off and ws grumping the whole time. I bought the oil ( Valvoline OW-20 full synthetic as required and a Toyota filter ). Somewhere in the process, he f'd up the oil change because I could smell oil burning in the garage last night ( but dismissed it as maybe a bit of spilled oil ) and this morning found oil on my garage floor. I could also see oil pooled on the top side of my skid plate when I checked the oil level ). I called the shop, sent photos of what was on the floor and owner said "That's a lot of oil." Naturally he was pissed at his tech. I drove it maybe 75 miles with it leaking! Shop owner advised to tow it to the dealer with our AAA since we couldn't really tell how much oil was still in the engine and he obviously volunteered to pay the dealer's cost to make it right and he'll pressure clean the mess underneath.

As some of you know my wife, all future service now has to be done at the dealer...

MaryAnn already ruled stuff like that out a while ago. Tire rotation, shocks, etc, shoes okay with me doing that on mod days with the group. Gotta make sure she's happy!

    Jeez, that sucks.

Makes me glad I do all my own maintenance.
Technically I can change my oil without dropping my 75lb skid but I figured out how to get a floor jack under it and zip it off with my cordless impact so I just take it off to minimize the mess.

LOL - I did pull the o dip a few times checking it and I did see that it at least some on it, but it was slightly different each time, so couldn’t get an reasonably accurate gauge. At least it still had some oil in it at least.

Update... I called the shop owner and he found out his tech used a breaker bar to get the cap off and saw that he cracked it in the process, didn’t think it was in a spot that would be a problem and kept his mouth shut.

I have a feeling he’s gonna have a dip in his paycheck for a while for being up front with the owner when it happened.

    LED's so far :-/
That's insane, how does a "tech" screw up an oil change....I'll never ever again, take my vehicle anywhere but a dealer to my oil change...Heck, I barely trust a dealer technician with my vehicle let alone some kid at a Jiffy Lube...But by far, I'd expect the dealer to be the lesser of the evil's unless you have a good reputable mechanic you trust...I have yet to find one, especially one open on weekends!

Good thing the owner is making it right and he may need to find better help!

Mind you, I'm new to Toyota so I have not yet taken my Taco in for an oil change yet but when I had a Ford, their dealer techs have made a number of mistakes on my Edge (used the wrong coolant when flushing, left vacuum hose unplugged when doing a spark plug change)...While we're talking about Ford techs, here's a funny yet crazy story..

When I first bought my edge, every time I pressed the gas pedal the steering wheel would jerk to the right...Took it to two different dealers and they replaced, the power steering pump, steering rack, tires, the front suspension was new because when I test drove the vehicle, the right front suspension was knocking (the previous owner must've hit a bad pothole before turning it in)....They even had the "regional field engineer" look at the vehicle and followed up with the plant who built the vehicle...then, after about TWO months (all under warranty and me with an F150 rental) they came back and tried to tell me it was "Torque steer" and that it was normal....eventually Ford told me it was a normal operation of the vehicle and deal with it...EVEN though other model/trims of the same year did not exhibit the same issue..

I took the car back and took it to an alignment shop on Miramar Road and they found the issue in 10 minutes....

    Worn out LCA bushing...

Took it back to Ford and made them replace it under warranty.....

The blessing in disguise was that the whole ordeal got me started on learning about mechanics and DIYing my own vehicle..I started doing my own oil, brakes, cooling fans, thermostat, anything fairly simple in that car..

The experience came in handy when I took my Edge to Firestone for a brake fluid flush...I checked the work and my brake fluid reservoir had a bunch of DIRT in it, HOW is beyond me...They also did not engage the ABS system to get that dirty fluid out either yet they charged me for it...So there goes Firestone as a trusted source now too...

Hopefully, my experience with Toyota is better but my experience has taught me to double-check any work done by anyone..

    Mods? Yes, oh yes..
This. I do my own maint. not because its economic, but because oil monkeys, tire jocks and hacks abound and don't give two shits about the truck I love. Get an oil pan valve, easiest changes ever. Like incredibly easy.
    http://fumotousa.com/results.php?make=79&year=2017&model=36529&makeid=TOYOTA&modelid=Tacoma+3.5L+V6

Important, at the next tank of gas, check the oil and take a sample for a mail-in analysis. You'll know more about what's going on IF it was deprived of oil. You're probably fine.

I’m pretty sure my rig is gonna be fine, it’s just a bummer that all my plans for my day off went out the window.

@Cali_Taco_718 , the shop owner is a stand up guy and take all of the agency vehicles I drive to him, but he’s never had this tech work on my stuff before.

Randy, even toyota will not want to take your skid off, all shops hate em. My advice to you is to take it off every time it gets serviced to avoid hassles.

Fyi tire rotations and basic maintenance doesnt qualify as mods lol

LOL - agreed on the "mod" thing, but that's what MaryAnn understands, so... And I get the skid plate issue now, so I may start pulling it off now, but I'll need to pick up a jack to make it easier. My service tech said it's part of their job and not to worry about it though, but still, I'll consider it as a courtesy.

UPDATE... The cap and housing needs to be replaced and both are in stock. They also advised that it only lost just over a 1/2 q, so everything is good there as they'll just top it off. Another hour and I'll be on my way.

My company allowed us to visit the Columbia Employee Store in Carlsbad for the month of November and buy gear/clothing/shoes/tent/etc. Upon checking out I was given 2 of these Black Friday vouchers that can be used in store on 11/29 only (0900-1900). Looks like each voucher allows up to 4 people to go giving everyone the employee discount and it looks like an additional 20% off and I already spent enough money there the other day plus I'll be out of state for Thanksgiving. If anyone is interested in these let me know, I can ship it out to you, just kick me a few bucks for shipping.

e/ only reply if you really intend on going*
