My buddy bought a 2020 OR about a month ago and I have a 2018 OR. Anyone looking for big improvements on the 2020 will be sadly disappointed. Drives the same, rides the same shifting is the same etc etc... aside from a few "entertainment center" enhancements it's the same truck. That said..anyone on the fence and maybe looking to wait for the next gen Tacoma may be waiting a while. I spoke to Toyotas head of marketing for North America while at the Mint 400 Races this year and 2025 is the mark for the 4th gen Tacoma which he also stated would most likely come with the option of a diesel. I'm in!:D

Except I’m not disappointed at all. Quite pleased with the updates coming from a 2016. Who is looking for “big improvements”? Lol it’s the same truck with some minor mid-cycle updates. That doesn’t mean people are all going to be “sadly disappointed”. SMH

Idk what’s disappointing? Audi’s have been leading the sequentials for a while now and these r on par especially at this price range. I went as far as saying these are better then mine M model bmw, the only thing these led don’t have is the laser cut the germans are doing. If u go aftermarket please just buy OEM off someone or from Toyota these other 3rd parties may look similar but it’s never the same... also the amber light on the side looks really aggressive (like an hook), most car just have a little yellow light, so whoever designed these new Toyota headlights needs a raise. Probably the best updated refresh overall.

I dunno, I guess it is almost too fast of a sequential. It's entirely possible due to the flash and brightness it is hard to see in video.

I see it now, they trail off instead of trail on.

Could be worse...us 2020 4runner folks don't even have the option of LED's and only the Limited gets auto/off headlights. Yet full auto on/off LED's come standard on certain trims on Yaris . My 1st mod will some sort of lighting upgrade if I can find decent options.

According to Mat from OV, he has confirmed nothing has changed in terms of transmission/ECU Calibrations:

Ok, I ordered them. Now I just need to wait for someone to make an adapter.

Maybe you 2020 guys can answer a question for me. I have a 2019 TRD OR and my wife has a 2019 RAV4. The RAV4 has the Apple Car Play setup and my wife is disappointed with it. To use the map function requires using phone data, lots of data. She maxed out her data limit for the first time ever the first month she had the RAV4.

On my 2019 Tacoma, map data comes from an SD card a phone connection isn’t required at all.

does the Apple CarPlay on the 2020 Tacos also use lots of phone data for mapping?

Is just like using your map on your phone, the car doesn’t make it drain anymore faster. Your obviously burning more data if is being actively mapped to point a to b. If it’s killing data somehow, I would just use Bluetooth and hook it to CarPlay when you need it.

I’m fairly certain all Apple Carplay functionality is enabled via your cellular connection. You can connect using Bluetooth and use the factory Entune software instead of CarPlay.

I personally haven't found that is uses a ton of data, but admittedly I don't watch it all that carefully. I just know that I never come close to my data caps which are pretty moderate. 3GB a month I think. The thing to consider is that CarPlay is really just an interface for the processing that happens on the phone (thus the need to keep it connected via a cable). If you use Apple Music/Pandora/Spotify streaming over your cellular connection then your data is going to go way up. Same for anything with CarPlay. That said, most of the media apps also support offline play. You can download Apple Music or Spotify playlists to your phone and still play them in CarPlay without using your data, for example.

Regarding the maps. I know for a fact that Google Maps supports offline navigation in Apple CarPlay. So that should work for you. I am not sure if Apple Maps does. I tend to use Apple Maps personally just because it works well with my phone and watch, but never checked if it works offline. I know this weekend it wasn't working when I was in the mountains without service but maybe there was an offline mode in the phone settings somewhere. :)

What a stupidity huh. How is it that this company is screwing the SUV/truck owners in safety items (and lighting is CRITICAL safety) and charging premier pricing for these junks but they are giving all of these things at least as options on the subpar throwaway vehicles? It's beyond me man.

The community asks and asks them and it takes them over 10 years just to make traction on whatever front it is being addressed by the consumers. It sort of angers me actually.

I have the base-model stereo in mine. I use Android Auto, but it is pretty similar. You want maps, you need to have a data connection, and it uses a LOT of data. With Google Maps on Android Auto, I often wind up in areas where my phone coverage is limited and it hasn't downloaded the maps, so I just have an icon in a blank screen with no roads. As far as the alternatives? The Scout mapping software will not even install, all the Entune apps are a total fail, I am unable to install anything.

Not too thrilled with the mapping options, will definitely be looking into alternatives.
