I know this has been discussed and I have spent 2 days searching this forum and can't seem to find the info I need. My 2009 Regular cab came with the backup camera in the tailgate and I've been in touch with Bob over at Bob's mirrors. What we can't seem to pin down is where the factory camera wiring goes inside the cab on a Regular Cab. In Access Cabs, with the over head console, the wiring is up in the head liner inside the console. My truck has the regular head liner. Has anyone here ever traced the wiring in the Regular Cabs with out the console? I sure would appreciate any help from someone who has dealt with this. Thanks.

I put a backup camera in my 2009 regular cab pretty recently. The from what I remember, wiring for the camera went from tailgate handle to bottom of tailgate then stopped. No wires from the taigate to the cab. They continue again in the cab near the fuse box. Three wires, two coated and one uncoated if i remember correctly. I'm not sure where they go from there, I was under the impression they were for a in-radio display, not sure they go into the headliner.. But I didn't use any of them. I just bought the mirror with the in-mirror display, the wiring, and camera and wired it all it. The camera from the Gentex kit was nearly identical to the camera that was in the tailgate handle from the factory, I just used the bracket and drilled I think one small new hole to mount the gentex camera in place.

Works great, can back up to a trailer first try now...

Was there a part number or numbers for the kit you ordered?

Not sure what was on the packaging. I just looked on the mirror it says MODEL: GHSHL4. An google scan looks to be the same.

It was pretty much universal. It came with a license plate mount that I didn't use. Honestly though, being able to have a backup cam when the tailgate is down would be nice. Very easy to wire in. I think 4 wires total. Power, Ign Power, Trigger, Ground. Running it under the car along the frame was the biggest pain in the ass. There is a rubber plug in the floor pretty close to the middle of the door driver side to get wires into the cab.

Thanks for the info! It just amazes me that they would put the camera in and dead head the wires. Did you splice into the factory wiring at the tailgate or just use the wire harness that you bought?

No. I just used the harness that it came with. Gentex camera had 3 wire and the factory camrea had 5. Wasn't going to waste my time trying to figure that out. Everything was included with the kit. Just pop off the tailgate backer and remove the old camera. Good Luck, great upgrade/update for the trucks.
