Brought my 15 in and had to leave it for the day so the dealer could install my 2.825 SC pulley and new belt. They just called and said they couldn’t get the stock pulley off, and that the install isn’t going to happen. Wtf.

I thought the dealer was the “right” thing to do. Not sure how to shop for a legit custom shop.

Do it yourself. A proper puller and belt replacement shouldnt be hard.

Dealer service depts are typically flat-rate and very competitive. A mechanic's survival at a dealer depends on his ability to cut corners and beat the book time. Some mechanics use an impact wrench to install spark plugs at the dealer, but tighten them by hand when moonlighting in their own driveway. For non-OEM parts, go to a well-reviewed indie shop. Go to your local TW section and ask for good indie shop references.

FYI the modified trucks in some dealers' showrooms (where they install a cheap spacer lift and mark up the price by $8k) are typically outsourced to an indie shop in the area. Same with tints, clear bras, and aftermarket alarms. Dealers do this to save money because indie labor rate is usually lower than the dealer's own labor rate.

I do somethings. Installed katzkins, an afe exhaust, stereo system, heated seats, an intake. I don’t really want to touch moving engine parts.

URD sells everything you need and oriley/napa/advance will loan you the puller you need to get the original pully off.

I appreciate all of your confidence in me. This is not a mod I will do myself. I am famous for fucking up simple things and creating a problem. Since custom shops were mentioned in this thread, I called a local shop and they said they could do it.

Problem with folks that go to the dealer is that they just take it and whoever writes up the ticket writes it up and off to any mechanic. Treat it like a bar, same service writer every time and same mechanic every time built, you’ll be surprised how easy it to get quality work and even discounts. I can’t remember the last time I actually paid retail at the dealer. My current dealer sells me parts a cost plus five.

Good deal, the great thing about this is that their work is gauranteed, meaning they mess up something during install, they’re fixing it. If you mess something up during your own install, you’re fixing it.

A deal here in SoCal spilled brake fluid on my grill and melted it. When I told them, they denied it till I showed them dash cam footage. SMH

This. I hit up the same advisor everytime. At my local dealer, it seems like the advisors are paired with the same techs. So, the same tech has been doing my truck repairs for the last two years. I even know the tech by name now.

My local dealer even gives a 15% off Costco discount from the final bill, which usually makes it equivalent to what a normal shop would charge.

The challenge for most will be finding a competent advisor and tech.
