Should I be ashamed that I am not aware of the unbelievably obvious sexual tones of David Wilcox and I live in Canada. My teens must have been miss spent!

Your parents may have kept you from hearing “Layin’ Pipe”. Your dad probably wanted you to hear it, as part of your coming of age, but your mom probably switched the station, or vice-versa.

For those not sold on EV’s let me share my recent experience.

I was fortunate enough to drive an ‘18 Model S Dual Motor loaner for a full weekend. Up until this point I had never driven an EV. We put about 125 miles on the odometer and drove it on the freeway and city streets. My first impression was how quiet the vehicle was. No starter, combustion engine or transmission noises. The only noise is a slight hum from the electric motors and the tires. Coming to a stop sign or red light you experience complete silence with the radio off. My next impression was how well the vehicle brakes. You let off the accelerator and the vehicle comes to a gradual stop with barely touching the brake pedal. I can see the brake pads lasting for a VERY long time. The last item that I was impressed with is the quick acceleration. From a standstill this car is QUICK off the line.

EV cars are fun and a pleasure to drive. Getting back into our ICE vehicle felt like stepping into a Model T. I did not hesitate to place my $100 reservation for the new Tesla Cybertruck.

Its not a zero sum game. My dad was in a trade (electrician) and I have incredible respect for guys like you (and my dad) that can do just about anything. That said, there was never any doubt I was going to college and frankly my dad wouldn't have it any other way. He knew the advantages that a degree carried with it; at least in the 80s. Anyhow, I went to school for a long time and ended up doing something I still thoroughly enjoy (mostly, lol).

My point is that being in the trades is a great path for some, while others should go the college route. You can have a fulfilling career either way. Thats the beauty of America! Now if I had to value societal worth of a plumber vs hedge fund manager...hmmm easy choice for me.

True. People should do the thing they gravitate towards where they can thrive. It’s when people are forced, or unduly encouraged or discouraged, one way or another, against the way they are naturally bent, that you end up with wasted lives.

I am sold on the idea of electric vehicles. At work I have had the opportunity to work on and drive fully electric vehicles. Although these ones are not quiet in any sense of the word. They accelerate with authority and dynamic brake to a stop with no brake pressure. It's not uncommon to have to replace brakes because they a deteriorating rather than wearing out. But the battery technology still needs more advancement. Range and reliability is still an issue. Even on the Hybrid equipment I work with. Batteries are still the biggest weaknesses.

Internal combustion still has some time before it dies out, but it's time is coming.

I am a tradesman and quite proud of it. I worked hard for it. But it is also something that came very naturally to me. Trades are jobs for life and lead to other opportunities. I encouraged my older daughter to look at trades or healthcare. These are jobs that are always in demand. I am proud to see she picked a trade!

Man, I have a family member with a Model S and another with a pimped out diesel Silverado and a neighbor with a Model X. I’ve driven ‘em. If you gave me $70k and said I had to get one of those three, there no question in my mind which one would be DFL. And if you tossed a Land Cruiser in that mix it would be the antepenultimate. Tesla has a huge head start, and half the auto manufacturers (Toyota included) are trying to lobby to roll back fuel economy standards that were set by the former administration, so it’s not like everyone’s going warp speed on eR&D. I’m not saying my fantasy ranking should be yours, but I find Teslas to be both impressive and, if you can afford one, worth the price compared to other vehicles at the same price point. Hell, if Cybertruck is even in the same ballpark as previous Teslas, I would put it first outta five. But...I’m on the twenty year plan with my Taco, and that’s cool too.

Who cares about wheels and vehicles? Let's not forget another famous Canadian band and get back to flying our magic carpets.

Indeed......very few people know Steppenwolf were Canadian (mostly). Don’t tell all the patriotic bikers roaring around at Sturgis with “born to be wild” (interestingly written by the drummer’s Canadian brother, who was not in the band) blaring and the good old stars-n-bars waving in the breeze.

Here comes the onslaught of electric trucks in the link below.

Somehow I remember electric trucks were used to deliver ice back in the early 1900s before people had their refrigidares.

That was before Kettering invented the electric starter for gas engines. Also, electric trucks didn't shit all over streets like horses when you got an ice delivery.
