$17k probably wouldn’t cover the parts and the truck. If you’re serious about a SAS, it’s worth it.

I saw that, makes you wonder if it’s seen any action, or just a made for TV mall crawler...
Looks to be built well though.

Well, at least they most likely know what they're doing. More so than me, that's for sure, lol.

However I have seen some behind the scenes on shows like this, and they often cut weird corners to make TV deadlines.

Looks like that rig has a few oil leaks that should have been addressed... You spend $15k on suspension and Tom Woods drive lines, seem like a $10 pinion seal should have made the list.

Yeah, they probably didn't get a rock slider sponsor, which is why they didn't have them.

These "made for TV rigs" are mostly just sponsorship deals.

WOuld have expected them to at least fab up their own sliders if they didn't get a sponsor. I mean, *I* have sliders, and my truck is not nearly as capable as this one is.

They did wheel it at AOP, probably didn't do much more than blue trails, with the ground clearance it has, probably doesn't need sliders for most trails lol. I would love to buy it, but it would be a dumb financial decision for me, I just bought a house and I would have to buy this, sell my truck, and also buy a DD, wouldn't make much sense

You can DD this Tacoma and not worry about another DD.

The same. Why wouldn't they cover that? I had a few built Tacoma and pickup in the past and never had an issue with coverage.

At least here in CA, salvaged or not, insured the same. IDK about other state. Call your agent.

Some state, if salvaged , you can not put it back to highway use. Can only be a parts vehicle, nothing else.

Sure. Assuming it's passed inspection to be road worthy, you're no more likely to smash it than any other car (unless you're in CA and your "inspection" consists of emissions tests and that's it).

Usually the only restriction might be with financing. Probably not many banks willing to shell out a bunch of money for a salvage title. Just means you pay cash. But I bet that even depends. People finance shit box cars all the time, you might just pay a higher rate or something.

They're super useful for turning around tight squeezes (trees/rocks) and still being able to open your doors afterwards. Doesn't matter how much ground clearance you have.

But who said anything about "smart financial decisions" here?

IMO I would buy that rather than a used stock 2nd gen for that price. It's about the going rate for a 2nd gen. I think it's worth what they are asking.

It looks like a pretty decent build. Lots of nice parts but missing some oddball stuff that should come on a $17k turnkey wheeler truck.

    -No hydro assist
    -No sliders
-Bilstein shocks with limited tuning options
    -No beadlocks
    -Stock rear bumper
    -Single transfer case

The TV show probably sold it for $10k to that dealer and they are trying to turn a tidy profit off of it.

I was trying to figure out that math when I noticed they had posted videos pretty recently of it but then I noticed that it is a consignment dealer and I think XOR films in a shop down there so they may be the ones setting the price.

I can't imagine the TV show needing to "make their money back" on this thing. That $17k is probably less than a day's worth of production costs for them. Add to that the fact that most of the upgraded parts they put on were sponsors and likely given to them for free. I bet you're right, probably sold it for 10k just to get it out of the shop for the next show.

    Other things I noticed:

-37's on 4.88's: seems a little under geared, especially with a single T-case...
    -All terrains??
    -(stock) bumper is crooked
    -stock stereo? lol
-So glad we got close ups of the 100 GENERAL TIRES stickers... lol

I believe the truck was in a front end collision because the radiator support is not the original silver color. The truck does have beadlocks though. I'll just wait and SAS my truck in like 3 to 5 years..
