I’ve read a lot of comments about CMCs. Some say it’s required to run 285s other have said not so much. I have a 3” lift with 32.4” Wildpeak tires (275/70r17.) If I go up to 32.8” (285/70r17), must I CMC or is there a wheel offset that will allow me to run the bigger tire without modifying the frame?

I’m running 285/70/17 no cmc with 3” lift. Running jba ucas ,4 degrees caster. No rubbing on simple trails as I have a prerunner. If you do heavy 4 wheeling you’ll rub.

Along with sharp reversing will rub, even with arms.

Rubbing is embarassing for me ,I would do CMC if I ran 285's 100%

I believe the 4.5" BS is the target of course wheel width plays into it as well. Get an alignment and ask to have your castor moved forward. If you have aftermarket UCA's a +3 for castor is achievable which seems to be the magic number. If you have stock UCA's about +2 is all you may get but it still helps it just moves the wheel more forward. A CMC, especially just to clear 285's, is not a big deal finding somebody willing to do it without raping you on the price may be. Try what you have with the alignment and see how it works maybe you'll be fine

I’m running 285/70/16 on a 4.5” backspace on 5100’s on the highest setting with stock coils with zero rubbing I’ve been flexed and locked on some good trails only thing that has ever made contact was the front plastic wheel liner which is no longer there with my current bumper set up. I just said f it and ordered it after doing a ton of research and finding it about 50/50 on if it would rub.

    THIS^.

Same reason I just bought the cmc plates. After 9 years of rubbing, I'm finally tired of scaring pedestrians with the rubbing when I'm parking.

I recommend just doing the cmc. It’s not a big deal.
