I love the focal speakers for Tacoma’s as well. I had those installed along with an lc7i converter and a small amp for some added power and they sound great. Added a slim alpine powered sub behind the rear back seats and that’s all the thump I’d ever want in our small cabins.

I recently gave my 2012 Tacoma with the JBL sound (& sub) to my son after I lost a bet. Then picked up a 2015 Tacoma with regular sound and I sure do miss my old system. I'll research this thread some more and possibly upgrade to a better sound system in my "new" truck. Funny how those "little things" matter!

6X9's have the approximate cone area of an 8" round woofer. Rockford Fosgate 6x9's go down to 33Hz which is better than most 8" woofers.

You are amplifying a poor source unit's sound. I encourage you to have fun with it. You've obviously been bitten by the "audio bug".

Will do you got to pay to play and the only question is how hard do you want to play.

I bit on the 6 x9 's. JBL Club 6930 (I think that was the model) They sound good to me and as I expected not real heavy duty base but nice smooth midrange. I have always thought that was JBL's sweet spot. accurate midrange reproduction. So, did the tweeters, lined the front doors for the JBL's now onto the back doors. I can see some sort of amp in my future.

I recommend you stick with a component speaker system setup. Your truck has a tweeter pod. The sound staging is much better than coaxial speakers

returned the speakers to Amazon; they accidentally sent me the wrong ones.
Ordered 3-way but was sent the cheaper 2-way version (Rockford Fosgate r169X3 vs X2 I think)

because of this "opportunity" to edit the decision, might pick separate speakers for this attempt, vs. multi-way. (aka component vs coaxial)
Just need to research which ones are good rather than blindly following the top search result in "2008 Tacoma" in Amazon for Rockford Fosgate R169X3...

I tried to get into this. But I never did. I did a simple kenwood headunit, jbl club speakers, and an alpine amp with sound deadening. I wish I could pay somebody to do it right but it's a definite upgrade over stock. But I get distortion at a high volume on certain songs, but on other songs it's a perfect noise. I'd have to say besides the amp, the sound deadening was the biggest noticable difference

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
The separate components with crossovers will sound much better!

I replaced the stock, base radio in my 2007 AC. Just going to a 20 watt RMS unit with some equalizer adjustments made a big difference. I find myself NOT turning it up yet still hearing more in the prog rock that I’ve been listening to for more than 40 years. I’m planning some components soon but not sound deadening until next spring when it warms up. I may not even need a sub to get the sound that I want.
