    Hello Taco Owners!!

A few Quick questions! Brought my 2016 Tacoma (105,000 km) in for a check before my extended warranty ran out. I had no issues with it but still thought it would be good to have it looked over. Brought it into a Toyota dealership (I know I know).
Came back saying my lower control arms needed to be replaced - this would be covered by warranty. However, in order to replace those arms they would also need to replace the cam bolts and hardware - apparently not covered at 273.10+tax. On top of that a alignment would need to be done at my expense.
So Q1: If stuff around the warranty item would need to be replaced because of the warranty item why wouldn't it be covered?
And Q2: Do I really need to change my lower control arms? I looked it up and have not noticed any of the signs - also I am trading this vehicle in to another dealer in 2 months and really don't want to spend 400.00 if I don't have to.
I really appreciate all of your responses . . . am trying to decide this by the weekend . . . I have an appointment for next Wednesday.

If you are getting rid of it in 2 months I'd either let it be OR if you can get them to cover the alignment and bolts then have it changed out. It does seem weird they will cover the control arms but not the other parts required to do the "repair".

Let the other dealer handle it. If it’s warranty, they have an angle on it anyway. No reason to throw good money on something you’re leaving (unless it’s a sale to family/friend/or increase profit).

I don't know how this warranty works, but I do know how a certain ATV manufacturer warranty works.
Sometimes the warranty will cover the part and the tech will suggest the hardware be replaced also. The manuf does not want to pay for the hardware because the book does not specify that hardware needs to be replaced when replacing that part. If the manual states to replace part and all necessary hardware and gaskets, then those parts will also be covered. Now, the tech/dealer is in a position to where, do you follow the manuf. policy or do what is right and replace the bolts. Typically, we would replace the hardware at our cost. It sounds like the same thing happened here, but the dealer is trying to pass thst cost to you.
I would politely ask, Does the service manual call for hardware replacement?
If the answer is no, then ask why they feel it needs to be replaced.
If the answer is yes, then ask why that is not covered under warranty.

Why would you need to replace the LCA and cam bolts. They will last forever. Sounds like a bunch of BS.

Yeah, they shouldn't be charging you fit hardware. I agree with @daddy_o and @JoeCOVA

Right on everyone! You made my decision easier...I was leaning towards not doing it. It sounded off to me as well. But now I'm for sure going to hold off.

    Thanks!!!

Some vehicles don’t come with adjustable camber kit bolts/washers with dials. It’s to perform a proper alignment if camber is out of spec.

So yes they are not covered.

Sounds like a scam in the works, stealers brr. Do you have any abnormal tire wear, weird noises not there before, have you hit a deep pothole and scraped the LCA, do you hear any screechy noises in the front? If the answer is no, don’t walk, run away ASAP.

Also there’s usually no need to replace the hardware unless the replacement part is a modified aftermarket type such as one designed for a lift, or cutting of the hardware is necessary for removal.

    Hope that helps

    Cheers

Yeah! Absolutely zero problems with it...just brought it in to have it checked before warranty. Should have known they would have found something lol.

    Thanks.
