Can someone please clarify if any of the third gen beds have changed from 2016 through 2020? I'm asking because I ordered an E-max Extang cover for 2016-2019 and it's not fitting my 2020 for several reasons. As far as I know the bed has not changed from 2016-2020 with the exception of the drivers side storage bin being removed after 2018.

    Thanks in advance,

    Pete

New to me. I would think dimensions would be the same as fit and finish besides the cubby

The beds should be the same size. What's the issue with the fit i.e. to small, mounting hardware doesn't work, etc.?

What are the problem areas? May be good to know- I was about to order a cover so it’s ready when the truck is delivered. Maybe I’ll hold off now.

    • The bed rail assembly has a tapered v gasket on the side that mates to the truck bed rail, this tapered shape makes the rail angle down and the slam latches can’t reach them, it also makes the sliding clamp assembly incredibly tight
    • The slam latch assembly cable is too short and the latches don’t even come close to the bed rail assembly
    • The bed rail mounted clip for the tail clamp has to be installed partially off the end of the rail to get the tail clamp assembly to line up with it
    • It also came with an extra bracket that's roughly the width of the bed but is not referenced in any of the instructions and makes no logical sense for being needed

Wow! There are a lot of things that aren't right. Have you made sure that they shipped you the right cover? According to their site it looks like this is the part#72830 for the e-Max cover.

Yup I was on the phone with a tech this morning, the cover is the right number and fits the bed but l'm not sure the hardware is correct and/or manufactured correctly. The cable being too short makes no sense since the only way it would work is if the truck had crazy wide bed rails. I've installed about six Extang bed covers in my life and this is the first one that I couldn't figure out because so much is wrong.

I got an email reply from another tech who told me to remove the tapered gasket and install it the other way, I responded saying that this would just create a similar issue in the bed rail assembly pointing up as my bed rail sides are vertical. He said to wait for the other tech l was on the phone with to respond.

At this point I would agree the that the mounting hardware could be the issue. If the second rep doesn't help you solve your issue I would just return it. I don't have the extant cover, but with mine once I installed the brackets on the bed rails it was just making sure everything lined up and then securing the cover in place.

Thanks for the photos and explanation! I was on the fence about this one, but your issue made up my mind about just going with one of the cheapest covers.

Good call, I still have no answers and am getting frustrated. $500 and this is what I get.

So after a week of going back and forth with Extang they have decided that my cover is defective, I destroyed it by cutting out a section of the vinyl cover and emailed a photo of the cutout to them. Replacement cover will be sent, hopefully it’s correct this time.

Just put a Gator ETX on. Seals ok, but I noticed gaps around the hinges. I guess I'll have to see how it holds up in the rain (or garden hose).

The Gator came from Realtruck via Amazon, and they are looking into it. But the Extang was the runner up along with Tonno Pro. Thanks for letting me know the fit works on the Extang.
