I think I need new carrier bearing - drop kit at same time?

I lubed the front and rear prop shaft zircs today and noticed how bad the center support bearing is. (I am wondering if this is the source of my noise that I thought was the rear wheel bearings????) Looks like p/n 37230-35130 is for my extended cab 4x4. Wow, $212 is discounted price. Yikes. I was wondering if I should drop the carrier bearing at the same time 1/4" - 1/2". I have a 3" lift. Note, I never noticed vibrations before and I have been driving around with the lift kit for 10+ years. The only kit I found online was from OME, but it is for a 2005 and later.

If you do go with a carrier bearing drop, that OME kit for 2nd gens will work on 1st gens as well. I used it for awhile myself on my 04. It's just a couple of metal spacers, the bolts are the same size we use. I took it off though after a few months because it didn't really help, got some axle shims to put on now instead

Took a close look at the thing today and I can see daylight through the CB, so the bearing has completely separated from the rubber. Fortunately, my replacement arrived from Toyota Parts Barn and will tackle this week. Just out of curiosity I measured the shaft angles after looking at the 45 page thread in the 2GEN forum.
Here is what I came up with:
    TC Flange: 0
    First shaft: 1.1 down
    Second shaft: 5.3 down
    pinion: 3.9 down
I am wondering if I should do a CB drop or axle shim as I have never had any vibes after the 3" lift. Now, 180K miles later, the CB is shot and I get vibes from the shot CB.

In regards to your angles, I too read through the entire 2nd gen thread only to realize it did not really apply to 1st gens. From my research and my understanding, the 2nd gens do not have a double cardan joint like first gens do. Since this is the case and no double cardan is present, the pinion angle and trans/tcase angle have to be in the same axis. However, with a double cardan joint the way in which is it designed helps eliminates vibes and the need for the pinion and output angles to perfectly match..from what I understand. From what I found in regards to a 1st gen and double cardan, the pinion needs to be as straight as possible with the rear most portion of the driveshaft (from the carrier bearing to the pinion). If your pinion is close to directly aligned the the rear portion of the shaft, it could explain why you have not had any vibes until now that your CB has gone out. Hope that helps!

Axle shims are a much better option for us than carrier bearing drop spacers, I would install some shims and see how that helps.
