I own both. I use the Raptor for travel and DD the taco. Haven’t had an issue with either and if I had to reduce my stable it would be the taco. Definitely not as nimble as the taco but the Raptor is just enjoyable to drive as it should for the coin they charge. If your worried about an oil pan, get a warranty. I believe they went metal mid 18 so I’m not sure if it’s an issue any longer.

Thanks for the responses. This is the info I was looking for. I’m going to see what 2021 brings for the Raptor and go from there. They are supposed to be releasing a new F-150, so naturally one would assume a Raptor model would follow.

I have had many, but my last Ford product was a 2013 F350
A short list of problems off the top of my head before I unloaded it @ 5 years and just under 50K miles.

    Turbo - replaced under warranty
    Transmission - replaced under warranty
Rear main seal leak - out of warranty and never addressed
Transmission leak - front pump seal, IIRC - out of warranty and never addressed
Radio head unit killing battery overnight - out of warranrty - pulled fuse and never addressed
Multiple in dash electrical gremlins - most covered under warranty - others out of warranty and addressed by pulling more fuses
Frozen front brake calipers X2 - replaced out of warranty
AC failure (bad o-rings in the cab controls) - replaced out of warranty

As they say these days, I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

    Built Ford tuff...

I read that Ford will be releasing the all new 2021 F-150 next year. There is a huge rumor floating around that Ford will stick the GT500 5.2 SC V-8 in the Raptor for 2020. Be ready to drain your checkbook if the rumor is true.

I’ve heard that rumor too. If that is the case, probably not happening for me.

They look fun, but they are massive. Too big for me to drive regularly.

    @Inverted
So I'm almost 2 months / 3000 miles into mine.

Theres a few things to consider with these trucks, which I'm sure you saw.
The main things I'm looking for is the cam phasers. I haven't seen much mention of anything else, I do know a few mention transmission shifts being "hard" in sport mode, but I believe that is resolved in the 2019/2020 trucks.

2019+ also has the live valve shocks which is cool, but kinda not cool. You can delete the electronic valve feature for $500, then drop about $10k into king or fox factory series shocks among the other supporting pieces. The next thing to consider is the pano roof, some absolutely hate it. It was optioned for my truck as I do feel it is absolutely sick. I already know I'm not purposely going to drive the piss out of this truck.

Reliability wise, I've heard both positive and negatives. Therefore it's a toss up to me. I went with personal opinions I trust that have ecoboosts, along with a friend who owns a 17' rap and drives the piss out of his.

Price wise, if you can find a 19' now, go for it. You should see at least a $6k discount off sticker of a 802a package truck. I've seen a few 20's getting $2k off a fully option truck as well.

Cabin space (SuperCab), and the amount of power in this thing is insane though lol. The raptor is straight up fun, and personally fun factor outweighs everything else.

I had a 2013 Raptor prior to my Tacoma. I LOVED my Raptor, but did not daily drive it due to gas mileage costs (I commute about 110 miles a day). So, Monday -Friday, I drove a little Honda hybrid and played in the Raptor on the weekend. After a couple of years, it just got stupid, so got rid of the Raptor and the hybrid and got a Tacoma. I haven’t really missed it, but I sure did enjoy it when I had it. Only issue I had with the Raptor was a Freon leak. It was really good truck

Thanks for all of the info. Are you considering trading if the gen3 comes out in 2021? It seems the Raptors are sought after, regardless of the generation.

I’ve found some good deals on ‘19s

A guess as to what the 2021 will look like thanks to SketchMonkey. A strong rumor is that the current leaf spring rear suspension might be ditched in favor of a Five link setup. Expect evolutionary styling as Ford doesn’t want to scare away hundreds of thousands of loyal buyers in the conservative Midwest.

Unless the gen3 has something amazing, I don’t plan too. Now, if it was the coil spring rear end and a v8, man. lol

I’m sure the SoCal dealers are going to have a field day with mark up over sticker lol. It was hard enough just to get one at sticker, let alone finding a discounted one haha

I agree that the reliability of the powertrain can be hit or miss. Ive got one customer with a 2014 / 6.2 and its been good to him. All he's had to do is brakes and oil changes

Unfortunately I've seen enough Fords to know that this type of stuff can happen too

The QC on the F-150 assembly line is definitely not up to Toyota standards. The other SuperCab Raptor that was sitting on the lot had a misaligned rear access door that was WAY off. I was shocked that it left the factory this way.

Clearly you haven't seen the countless QDR Toyota mismatches here. Like oh you know the endless misaligned bumpers and bed threads. The TRD Sport sticker on one side and TRD Offroad on the other picture, or one fender flare being an OR and on a new MGM on the lot. Or the white paint that was rusting on the 16-17s, or the Blazing Blue's that had clearcoat failure, maybe the darker shade rear on MGMs. Nope Toyota QDR is flawless...

Not flawless, but nothing is perfect when people are involved in the QA process. Fun fact: A new f-150 leaves the assembly line every 53 seconds.
