Hi all. I’m in Maine and I’ve owned an 04 RAV4 for 12 years and it has been great. I’ve been looking for a couple months now for a Tacoma double cab 6’ bed. Looked at a few. Most were abused. I have been trying to keep the price under 23k so that meant 2012/13 models mostly. I decided it may be worth paying a little more as the resale seems to be very good. ( I take good care of my vehicles) I’ve run across a 17’ that looks great online but it is 10 hrs away. It has 56000 miles (which is high for the year) but brings it into my new price range. Googled 17 sr5 and saw nothing but negativity. It’s hard to filter all the info and mid information these days. What do you all think about 17 sr5 4wd v6 6 speed auto?

Good truck. Test drive to see if you like it, though.

I like my 16 TRD off road...same motor and trans as SR5
Maybe find a similar truck close to you and test drive it and see what you think.

    Welcome to TW!

You could go to a local dealership and ask to test drive the same model if they have it. Just don't tell them you are looking to buy one elsewhere.

Investigate before you invest. Do your research. Driving how ever miles to look/purchase a vehicle is a very small price to pay.

just my two cents. I would also look at the new 2019 models. dealers are discounting them heavily.

One thing you can do is have the truck 10 hrs away taken to a local shop for a pre-purchase inspection including a test drive by the mechanic. A mechanic who is independent and works for you. If the independent report represents the truck as originally stated by the seller & the pictures, and you can negotiate a fair price, then fly out and pick up your new truck. I would structure the deal so the seller pays the mechanics bill upfront and you reimburse him as part of the purchase. This way if the truck fails or was misrepresented- you walk and the seller is stuck with the bill because he attempted to scam you.

Purchased my 2017 SR5 4x4 used with 10k miles and set it up for better off road performance with a 2” suspension lift and taller tires. Great truck for what I want out of it.

Don't be too put off by 56,000 miles. That's 18,000 miles per year and would suggest a lot of highway driving which is better than that many miles in city driving.
