Anything welding

I picked up a table from Amazon. (The only table that would ship for free.lol)
And some cool new compact Milwaukee tools like this right angle die grinder.

In no way shape or form am I trying to be a jerk or call you out or anything so please don’t take it that way when I say this. I just wonder if you’re getting the correct amount of penetration on those joints with the method of welding you’re doing. Tack, tack, tack, tack along the whole joint seems as though you would have a lot of cold starts (evident based on the little crater in each individual “dime”) as opposed to running a continuous bead along the entire joint where the voltage and heat stay the same the entire length of the joint. The tack, tack, tack method is great for sheet metal and body panels so that you don’t get warpage or blow through the material but I just question it a little on something like an A arm. I’m no expert or anything so please educate me if I’m wrong. Really nice TIG welds in the last picture

It’s a continuous bead with a miller 252 .030 wire, heat at 18.5, wire speed at 195... more than enough penetration for 1/8”

 

Haha well I kinda figured you’d react that way. That was my main purpose for “I’m not trying to be a jerk or call you out” and finishing with “I’m no expert so educate me if I’m wrong”

I’m not saying I don’t believe you, I’ve just never seen a continuous bead have a little crater at the middle of each “dime” like that. I have a few friends with that same machine and I’ve used one many times myself and haven’t yielded the same look with a standard whipping of the puddle motion. However, rather than argue about what it is, I’ll say I’m sorry for assuming and move on. Didn’t mean to offend you if I did

 

Not offended at all. For this style of joint with 1/8” I do a “push-pull” method with the tip perpendicular to the material. I’m happy to make a video showing you or better yet just go try it yourself and you will see what I’m talking about.

And for the record I’m not offended at all! I love the questions... that’s how we all learn. There are many different styles of MiG welding combined with different machine settings, material type/thickness which can all result in different style looking beads!

Hell yeah. How much was the bench?

I went a little crazy on Home Depot’s website as well. Grabbed one of those Milwaukee die grinders, a stubby impact, and a bunch of 4.0AH batteries. Also bought half a dozen of these small parts organizers. Gonna build a rack to hold ten or so. For now three are stowed under a tool box.

 

Here’s a peice if 3/16 plate I welded up yesterday.



It’s a mounting bracket for a leaf spring hanger cross brace.

 

Those bins are nice. I went with the harbor freight version for the 20 bins vs 8-10 (depending on brand). Still need to build a rack for mine....plus fill the other 6 I have. Been nice to consolidate everything

 

The table was actually only $150 shipped. The table top is only about 1/8", but I think it was meant to be light and portable. It is pretty sturdy except for a little wiggle in the caster wheels. For $150 I figure I can add my own table top if it warps too much.

I also bought the M12 hammer drill and impact gun and a 2 pack of 3ah batteries. Thg drills came with a 2ah and 4ah. The lady that checked me out at the register at Home Depot gave me $50 off!

 

I would love to see a video. Im self learning and could use more good info on different methods. Please share. Good videos are hard to find.

 

I’ve been using some Home Depot hdx ones for the last few years, but the patches and stuff are starting to break. Hopefully I’ll find some free time to get a rack going for mine.

$150 isn’t bad at all for that table.

People getting new machines now or a Christmas !!!

Please take the time to read the user /owners manual!

This stuff changes so much year to year We get machines in for doing just what they should .

I feel sorry for the little person to get charged $ 150.00 to be told to read the manual.

Worst case this year for not reading the manual @ $9000.00 for a new engine not covered under warranty for missing a very important step after each use quite easy to see in the manual .

 

Ive had some Huskey ones for years. Luckily they have held up well. I just keep finding myself doing work at other peoples places (like my parents) so nice to grab them and have everything I need for the job.
