neither of those things would have helped.

The nut was bottoming out the threads on the stud. So you could tighten it as tight as you wanted and there would still be play.

The BJ taper was fine, amazingly, so I don't know why Id want to open it up more.

Yes it did.

There was enough play in it that i had tightened them down not realizing that the nut had bottomed out the threads. This slowly sheared off the cotter pins. Then the nuts started backing off. When I found it the passenger side was extremely loose, the nut was past the bottom of the stud, and the driver side was hand tight.

The solution was this:



two washers under the nut. This is before it was torqued mind you.


One was not enough.

2 was perfect.


Not entirely sure why it is that way.

 

That means they ran the taper too far then, needs to be welded solid and re drilled

 

seems probable.

However, the end part looks like an off the shelf part to me. My MCM LCAs have the same part i think. So...idk.

Finally swapped the clutch spring out for an Ace #70 spring. Good thing too, wasn't much life left on the clutch pedal center hook and the spring was almost worn half way thru. Might get an OEM brake pedal spring later.

 

Changed a u joint, which means the carrier bearing the other day was probably fine. Oh well

Nice. I have 20k miles on the #70 spring. No issues. It’s what the original design was then some executive at Toyota said he didn’t like the feel. So they designed him that ridiculous spring and bushings that go out every 50k miles.

 

Lolololfunny as hell when a little made up story like this is invented to explain certain little details, or issues, or problems(whatev you wanna call em)
