Was wondering if anybody has installed a kicker key amp in a 2020 with the 8" touch screen. I replaced all the speakers, bought the amp. Bought a amp harness from *********. None of the plugs on harness are even close to the ones on my head unit. Waiting on reply from them, but since this is a huge resource i wanted to ask if anybody has had any experience with this HU and amps. I wasn't under the impression it was anything different as far as connects. Although i did have the weird tiny plugs on the back door speakers like someone else here mentioned.
Didn't see any other threads with this question, apologies if it has been addressed already.
    thanks,
    mike

Interesting. Can you snag a pic of the front face? Curious to see if it looks any different than previous years

Definitely new design compared to previous years.

by the looks of it. It is using the Metra 70-1765 harness. The black connector is conveniently all of the speaker wires. Unfortunately, I don’t think they make a “male” version of this plug so you could build the traditional t-harness

Just got a response from *********, they say they have the new harness and have shipped it to me. Hopefully good news. Really wanted to avoid chopping up oem wires.

I did get the replacement. Not sure why the name of the company (rhymes with jaco moons) gets blocked from my posts. destin_meeks, You were correct that the speaker wires all come out the one black connect. So a really simple wiring job connecting the kicker key input and output plugs.
They come with miles of wiring that i guess gives you amp placement options anywhere you feel like. I wanted to try and stay in the dash if i could and ran power to the battery and ground to the body next to the battery. There weren't many options though once i got into the dash and the glove box. Because the HU is a single din in a double din space, i was able to tie wrap it to the bottom of the HU. I had to shave a little bit of plastic off the base of the amp where the mounting holes are to get it to fit between the HU mounting brackets. Its a little awkward getting the wires from the kicker plugs into the opening since added to the width of the amp its not free and clear, but it does work if you're careful.
It took two runs with the pink noise to get a "happy song" from the dsp setup with the kicker. I didn't listen to the amp before other than to check connections. I was really hoping the dsp would solve the rear channels being completely pointless, but did nothing to help that. They are still only barely there with the fader all the way on rear and volume cranked. Anyone in the back seat or front seat will never hear them. I've always encountered reduced fidelity from the rear, but never to this degree. I'm truly perplexed.
As far as the front sound with the kicker's dsp on, it really took the sound down to one dimensional. I had already replaced the tweeters with the subaru replacements and the doors with Infinitys. What was very crisp and full range, evenly projected frequencies, but needing a headroom boost, is louder now but poorly reproduced. I've turned dsp on and off, tried adjusting gain and gotten no better sound. I played some stuff for a friend who is a member here and he hears it as well.
Had i not read about the kicker amp here, i never would've given it a thought. Sounded like a good solution to boosting speaker level output. But even with the kicker dsp off, the sound is colored, highs muted, bass uneven and boomy. It was worse with the dsp on. As far as price goes, the kicker wasn't a very expensive amp and I know from my other audio equipment, you usually get what you pay for. I may still do some disconnected/connected, and with dsp on comparisons to get a better idea of the differences. It may be a case of amplifying the oem sound never being much better.
HU can always be replaced. The oem HU just looks so damn good in the dash I'm not ready to go there yet. It also works flawlessly with android auto(so far). Something the pioneer nex in the traded-in f150 was beginning to have issues with. In all honesty, i guess I am aggressive in my expectations of how I want my equipment to perform. It might sound great and be fine to anybody else. Not judging, just saying. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. GO TIGERS!

Have you thought about trying an active LOC like the lci2 or Rockford Fosgate rfpequ, op? That’s the route I’m going with my setup once my wiring harnesses come in... were supposed to be here yesterday and still didn’t make it in today. Now it’s Monday. The Fosgate is supposedly good at getting the best clean bass from stock head unit without the bass curve before it enters the amplifier. The lci2 does the same thing.. maybe that’d get you what you’re looking for out of the key

There were a good amount of bad experiences with them when they were either posting and/or a vendor on here long ago, that's the reason.

I also have a 2020 with the 8" display and was considering adding the key amp. Any updates? Were you able to get good sound from it somehow?

I'm in a similar situation, I did the full Kicker speaker replacement and the sound clarity is great but I'd like more volume without sacrificing that clarity. Thanks.

i just ordered the tacotoons solution as well. to fit the 2020 it looks like metra does make the right kits (you need two), but the cost was almost the same as buying the complete solution from tacotoons. i'll post an update once I get everything installed.

Following. I have a 2020 non JBL...not even sure how to tell if I have entunes or not. I had read up quite a but, at least I felt like it, then someone threw in a link saying the 2020s are different. EFF!

    So please update us!

As an update to this thread

the connectors ARE the Metra 70-1765 and 71-1765

you can buy the Taco Toons 2018+ Camry add-a-sub wiring kit as well.
This is a much cheaper option than buying both Metra pieces. You will be cutting off a lot of extra wiring length, but that’s ok.

Are all of the 2020 Head units like this? I was going to install a pioneer brick amp but looks like the connectors are not the usual toyota ones. Guess I will have to pull the dash and look now. I have a 2020 SR5.
