Hey! New member here. I spend most of my time stateside but have to spend some time in Asia for work. I recently bought a 2019 2.8 Hilux there and was wondering if some Tacoma parts (like suspension) could be used on the Hilux?
Only reason I ask is that the aftermarket off road Hilux parts there are dumb expensive and relatively hard to find. I've already looked into getting wheels/tires sent there from here since again, theyre just unreasonably expensive there.

The roads there are pretty rough and some site locations don't really have a road. So itd be nice to make it a little more comfortable and capable off-road. Thinking of shocks for now so I'm curious as to whether or not this would work.

    Thanks!

Big ones are King suspension, SSO bumper w/winch, Pelfreybuilt sliders.
I'm also curious about this, but in reverse. Wondering if aftermarket Hilux UCAs could be used on a Tacoma...

    Ammar -

Although the 'Lux and the Tacoma look a lot alike, there are many differences that make it difficult to interchange parts. Much of this is due to US safety regulations. Trucks built for US sale are very different in construction from those sold in other countries where there are little or no govt regs. I really doubt if many things interchange between the current Hilux and the Tacoma.

There are many stores on Ebay selling Hilux aftermarket parts that are based in Thailand (where the Hilux is built). I have ordered several parts from them, and they are reliable and their pricing is good. Usually shipping is free. Search "Hilux (year/model)" and see what pops up. You can browse the sellers' stores and maybe find what you're looking for. You didn't mention where you are in Asia, but Thailand has to be closer to you than the US. Besides, you will pay through the nose to have anything shipped from the US to Asia (especially a set of wheel rims). The real problem is that when you get a wrong or damaged part, exchanging it is a total hassle.

I have the same problem. Living in Colombia South America has made getting what I want for my truck a real challenge. Little is available here, and most of what is available is junk.

    Good Luck.

What is your opinion about the headlights? I am moving to Scotland later this year and taking my Tacoma with me... however, in the UK I must have blinkers that operate on the side. I could accommodate this a couple of ways, trying to determine the easiest and/or most economical.

One thought we had was rewire the two daytime running lights to make one a blinker and one a side blinker....however, then I lose my my side/parking light. Another thought was to look into whether the lights for the Hilux would fit my Tacoma... and would it just be easier to buy two new assemblies and swap them out with what I have....

Any suggestions on this would be helpful!

    Thanks

I would just buy a pair of aftermarket small 3/4" round lights , install them and wire them to the turn signals.

I have a 2017 Tacoma. I like the looks of the leather Hilux shift knob available from Amazon. Do the Hilux and Tacoma have the same gear shift knob thread and pitch ?

Yes. Both the Tacoma and the Hilux Vigo use the same 12 x 1.25 thread in their shift knobs.

Bit of a necropost here, but does anyone know if Hilux side mirrors can be used on Tacomas? ClearView makes the exact mirrors I'm looking for, but only for the Hilux.

    Link: https://www.clearviewaccessories.com.au/product/toyota-hilux-2005-to-2015/

There are cheap clones of these mirrors available, but all reports indicate that they are garbage.

@JAMES399 or anyone else with knowledge, any contribution would be appreciated.

Damn. Well, it was worth an ask I suppose. I do wish someone would make drop-in towing mirrors that aren't the obnoxious Dodge style.

I guess I can see that. I'm really interested in having larger side view mirrors to reduce blind spots and increase field of view without distorting the image. Aesthetics is a secondary concern.

3" Lift and rims coming soon
I was wondering on the fender flares, I've seen super wide flares for hilux even on ebay or other sites. But for the taco I've seen 1.75" max and they are either ugly or too expensive from my point of view, I don't think an extra quarter of an inch is worth an extra 200 bucks
