Hey great build, could you post a photo of how you attached the tent walls to the lower portion of the frame. Really curious how you water proofed it. Thanks!

No worries. Could you share some details on how you made it work without skirts?

Saving to start this! I've had a RTT for a while but I think it's time for a change. The RTT is great and has been awesome, but I'm tired of packing it up in the cold!

Sorry for the super late reply! I basically sewed on a 8” piece of material that would overlap the 80/20 when the tent was open. Almost like a skirt around the perimeter (except the front)

I think this is almost exactly what I am going to do, so I'm going to poach a lot of your design. I have a couple questions though.

    1. 8020 parts: the parts list says stuff like "miter cut as per drawing". Is that the shape up drawing you made? Or a different cad drawing you made with 8020? Can I really send them your parts list and get the pieces for the clamshell back?

    2. 8020 strength: much deflection in the parts that hang out above the cab? If you did it again would you use the same profiles?

    3. Attaching to the bed: it looks like they welded 4 tabs to the frame that you used, was that adequate?

    4. Anything else that if you did it again you would do differently?

Thanks so much for putting this together. I can see that it was a lot of work to build, and also a lot of work to put together this write up, but without this I think the project would be unobtainable for me.

How much did it cost for you to outsource the steel frame work?

I paid around 600 to get mine done, but it all depends on the shop honestly. I have a buddy building one now and his frame was a big more elaborate and cost $1200

How well did the living hinges hold up?

And did you use anything for condensation for under the mattress?

fyi - gfc has gone away from its living hinges as it appears the manufacturing process can cause imperfections - at least in the ones they used - resulting in catastrophic failures. not saying this will happen in every case - gfc had some pretty random failures - they moved to an aluminium “embassy hinge”

Thanks, I thought I remembered GFC using similar hinge in the beginning which is why I was wondering if its held up. I will pry go to something else then.
