Am I crazy for wanting to trade?

I have a 2009 DCSB for about 2 years now. I love it. I dont do serious 4x4ing but I do shoot a lot and drive out skinny logging roads. I ended up doing the bilsteis 5100 all around with the 3 inch toytech left. It's nice being able to maneuver with the short bed. However, do to my training I have to travel a bit and like the idea of just sleeping in the bed since I have a canopy. Problem with the short bed is I barely fit even laying diagonally. Do you think it's worth trading for a DCLB, would a lose much maneuverability? Do most people want the long bed anyways so it would be impossible for me to even get someone willing to trade?

    Like, so many.
You’ll love some maneuverability and break over angle, but that might be a fair trade off for a larger sleeping area. Just weigh the options based on what you need!

Interesting situation here. Its very tough to even match year and milage within reason. Then theres the issue of actual wear and tear, recent mods/maintenance, how hard the trucks were actually run. I can't see a truck trade simply being for the bed, somebody is going end up better off, somebody is going to end up worse off after the trade. Let me know how the search goes

I'm pretty happy with my DCLB. Great for being able to haul stuff and sleeping in the back when camping.

I didn't even think of the break over angle. I don't think that will be a probably for what I drive. I do worry about trying to turn it around on some roads with a drop off on one side. I am leaning towards trying to trade it. Would be much easier to sleep in the long bed and have room my bags.

Ya, I guessing it would have to be a trade plus cash one way or the other, or maybe I try and sell mine then buy another one. Specially since I need a canopy as well. Trucks are so personal and I know how good I've treated my baby :) I do have 150000 miles now. getting up there.

Add a roof rack and get a pop up tent. Don’t waste your money on an extra foot.

I have a DCLB and drive it all over in the NF near me. I've found myself at the end of some dead end roads and had to make a few 78 point turns, but I've never come to anything that I couldn't drive over or around because of the long bed. I had a DCSB before it, and much prefer the LB. Mine is lifted with the heavy OME kit and dakars, and I have a winch, so maybe I'm a little more adventurous than I would be otherwise. I also have about 9471 pinstripes down each side, so I'm not afraid to drive into some brush if needed when turning around or whatever. Unless you're doing some pretty involved off roading, the extra foot really won't affect things too much. Hell, I notice it more in parking lots and side streets than I do out in the woods.

Where do you live? If you're close to me (I live in Kent, WA) you're welcome to either ride with me one day while I'm out, or we can get together on a drive with both trucks and see if you get anywhere that I won't go.

See what the aftermarket has to offer. They may have options available that will allow you to maybe use the tailgate down, while still being covered while sleeping. l know that isn't the same thing as a long bed.

It's tough trading away a truck that you know, for one that you don't.

Sleeping in the bed is a novel idea but if you'll be doing it often you'll wish you had a different option.

I'd keep the DCSB and use a RTT or ground tent.

If I did not have kids I would of purchase an access cab. Even the long bed I do not fit so I will purchase a RTT soon. Nice to have extra room in the long bed.

These trucks are TINY! I bought an AC because I can live with one passenger but can’t live without a 6’ - or bigger - bed or a MT.

If hauling passengers was a priority I’d buy a full size. Dunno how you all get by having a wheelbarrow behind your kids in their car seats. Just isn’t practical.

If you're thinking about a DCLB, then just trade for a 1/2 ton extended cab with a 6 1/2' bed. The overall length is the same. Fuel mileage is the same and the cost is the same. But you'll get a bigger, wider, deeper bed, a larger, much more comfortable cab with the same size rear seat, and much more towing and payload capacity.

The biggest advantage of a Tacoma is the small size. The biggest disadvantage is the small size. A DCLB gives you all the disadvantages in a package just as long as a 1/2 ton with none of the advantages.
