Break glass, put shifter in neutral, attach tow strap. Or alternatively....

You forgot that the rat bastard will have to deal with the steering column lock, you know.. since there's a physical key and all.

Always park with the front wheels turned. Regardless, still harder than the relay theft mentioned in the article. Have fun with your push button start horseshit! :)

Oh i quite enjoy my own horseshit, otherwise I wouldn't be spouting it all the time. :D

Best part about my day? Not having to reach around my giant muffin top to blindly dig into my hipster skinny jeans for an oversized key that's been in a jousting match with my sack for the better part of the workshift. Push buttons for life, son! They could post instructions on how to steal a push button car only using a piece of wadded chewing gum, and I'd still drive it. If the CDC announced tomorrow that starter buttons were the root cause of herpes, I'd probably pause to think about it for a minute, then say "nah, keys fuggin suck, man," then hop in my push button truck to go pick up some cold-sore ointment. :cookiemonster:

Judging by the number of Canadian plates down here from snow birds and vacationers, no. Florida is the new Canada.

Pit bull, Rottweiler, or German Sheppard. Park the truck near the dog. No one is gonna mess with those puppies.

    Like, so many.
Doesn't the fob still need to be inside of the truck for it to start? I've gotten the "key not detected" message when I've left my keys inside.

The thieves have technology to extend or boost the key fob signal. So the truck thinks the key is inside, when really it's 50 feet away inside your home or in your pocket.

Ah, got it. Thanks. Does this work on other car makes with push start or just Toyotas?

Works on lots of makes and models. Those pics I posted are from a Tesla being stolen. No one is safe!

I like the Toyota spokesperson's suggestion on parking a less attractive car blocking the nicer Toyota. Very realistic and helpful.

If I have my key in my truck, presumably I'm in my truck with it. I'm not really worried about someone hijacking my key when I'm not looking if I'm actually looking. The attack is about amplifying the signal from a key fob that is nearby. So the trick is to not put your key in those places near a wall where some dude can amplify the signal.

Of course, this all misses the main point. If you keep your keys on the hanger by your door, no one needs a fancy expensive high-tech tool. They can smash the window 6 inches away and take the key. So this is largely panic about a high-tech bogeyman that doesn't exist.

But! We keep out non-PTS keys laying on the center consoles of our cars in the garage. Heck, my motorcycle key lives in the ignition cylinder. The spare keys live on a shelf by the garage stair door.

I fear the day that we get a PTS car and have to keep track of keys.

About the only PTS key that I am a fan of is the smartphone option that Tesla uses. Maybe other brands have this feature also? I think I left the house without my phone once in the last 5yrs. Also, I don't do keyrings or lanyards.

Just a note that all this is a bit of fear mongering as automakers are going to PTS fobs with accelerometers. Once they are left laying somewhere, the signal is automatically cut after a few minutes. I have no idea if Tacos have this type of fob?

this no shit made me laugh out loud...i have an M/T but didn't come join in the " i have a key crowd" but what i did come to say is you'd be amazed what a $10 chock block from Lowes will prevent... i set my shifter to 2nd when i shut it off and set a chock block behind the front driver wheel everyday..i have a steep driveway with a house directly across from me, i'd rather take the extra 7 seconds than pay for the repairs of someones house..something so small in the dark creates an issue many aren't thinking of especially when the clutch isn't like most...best of luck

And I wonder how many drunk Russians have gone to the great vodka bar in the sky because they forgot to turn it off..
