My First Truck is a 2020 Tacoma Off Road Double Cab Short Box

This is my first truck and looked a lot of You Tube videos and trucks at different dealerships. The Ford Ranger FX4 and Chevy Colorado ZR2 both had good specs for towing and fuel economy. I liked the Tacoma off road features and the sport's hood scoop and long box. Here in Canada the off road is only available in the short box, no long box option. Having kayaks over 13 feet a long box may have been a better choice. What I really wanted was the off road features and the long box but that configuration was only available in the US. In addition to the double cab was the access cab which had the longer box and a higher payload. Decisions, decisions, all the hype of the 2020 additions filled the you tube channels. I was also hoping the voodoo blue would be available for the sport and off road in 2020. I followed the US sales site Toyota.com seeing the 2020 Tundra added to the site then later was added to the Canadian site, both with the voodoo blue color option. Later the 2020 Tacoma was added to the US site and voodoo blue was an option for the regular off road. When the 2020 Tacoma was listed here in Canada I was excited to finally find out if voodoo blue was available in the 2020 Tacoma's. Of course it was but only in TRD sport and off road configurations. So the color and year was decided a 2020 in voodoo blue. The 2109 TRD PRO was a great looking truck but I only wanted the regular off road. The 2019 pro in voodoo blue may have been an option if the 2020's did not come in that color. Still I had to wait to see the 2020, mostly for the power seat and sun roof options for my personal fitment. Working backward from fitment in the off road premium to the off road and then possibly the off road access cab. I hoped the sun roof would not take away too much of the head room. The premium had 2 main options I wanted, multi terrain camera and blind spot monitoring. The other 3 premium options were leather, wireless charging and sun roof. Still the off road access cab and sport were not off the table. The sport premium and off road premium are the same exact price except when adding third party items like tonneau covers and rock sliders. Decisions, decisions, waiting for the 2020's Tacoma's to arrive and seeing big discounts on the 2019's. After a few more weeks the 2020's began arriving, nothing in voodoo blue but a regular double cab off road without the monitor or sun roof, a premium sport with a sun roof. Still looking for the premium off road. I found the new power seat in the sport off road gave room for the sun roof and improved the visibility of the low roof line. Still I wanted to see the off road premium with all the features of the multiple cameras in action. I am surprised that some opt for the manual transmission and not get the multi terrain modes and crawl control. I really like the extra off road options and the fact that I can manually control the automatic transmission in "S" mode.

So finally I drive by a Toyota dealer with a 2020 voodoo blue Tacoma off road premium sitting outside. I gotta stop in and test drive that baby! Hate telling the sales guy that's the exact one I have been waiting a year for. Cameras are awesome, rear lines and multi color turn lines showing everything around you. Blind spot monitoring working as expected. Lane assist in tune with the signal lights. Adaptive cruise can mirror the speed of a vehicle in front of you like your being towed on a tractor beam! OK don't need to consider the sport or the off road access cab. Lovin' the Tacoma TRD Off Road Double Cab Short Box in voodoo blue!

I thought I could wait until spring to trade in my vehicle but I didn't. The first 2 local dealers were 5K short on my trade in value and the next dealer had no problem giving me my "Black Book" trade in value and a small discount off the price of the new 2020. So a few days later I am picking up my first truck and an awesome truck from Toyota.

The only options I needed was the bed mat and new this year a remote locking tail gate. Ordered my RCI rock sliders prior to meeting with the 3rd dealer once the Black Friday discount appeared November 13th, met the third dealer on the 16th to agree to a trade in deal. Left with the TRD off road premium on the 20th once they got my voodoo color in. The salesman sold 3 that week in the voodoo blue color.

Only one disappointment from Toyota Canada is that only the Off Road Pro and Limited come with LED headlights and fog lights. It is not an option for the other trim levels either.

Congrats! We got our TRD Pro O/R in cement grey the day they were allowed to start selling the 2020s in Canada. lol.

Already knee-deep into the lighter mods, and will move into bigger mods as I find I need them.
