Hey guys, so I have access to a couple trucks about to go to the scrap yard. I live in the Outer Banks (barrier islands NC), when hurricane Dorian hit us, our little neighbor island Ocracoke was hit hard, nearly every vehicle flooded, most people lost everything.

Anyway, a buddy of mine is one of the people towing all the cars off the island to take to junkyards. He happens to be grabbing a couple 1st gens tomorrow and I can pick them apart for whatever I want. Mind you, most of these vehicles were under 3-6’ or more of salt water for days. So I’m not gonna bother with drivetrain stuff.

However my driver side exterior door handle broke the other day...guess what I’m taking? If the headlight and marker light housings are in better shape than mine I’m taking them. From pics I’ve seen the hood looks in good shape even if it’s a different color (mine has rust spots and paint is shot).

Just curious what you guys would grab?

Eh, my tailgate is fine. Not looking to take stuff to sell. Just stuff for my own truck. Things that are known to break (as I found out the darn door handles, I’m taking all of them haha)

If you don`t need things don`t keep it.

We all look to different parts Then your friend still needs to be able to move them

4x4`s I would pull the driveshafts CV axles depends what I needed as long as one knows it has been in A flood things can be cleaned and lubed.

You’d pull CV’s and whatnot knowing they were submerged in saltwater for a couple days?

for those wondering, this pic was taken at low tide and at one of the “highest” point of the island. Saw pics of jeeps with water damn near the roofs, cars floating. In my village a lot of people lost cars and a lot of stuff in the house.

I would have no problem!! Knowing it was A Submarine wannabe!!

Myself even pull the Engine the electronics most likely would be toast .

It is when people buy things like that not knowing it was in water for days that causes the heartache $$$$

    Yep, this.

Clean and re-grease those submarined CVs and you should be fine.
