265/65/17 or 265/70/17?

18 Sport with 17x9 -12 ET wheels. I obviously don't want rubbing and I don't want to "make it work". Will 70 rub or do I need to go with 65 (factory size)? I'm thinking wilpeaks atw, geolandar g015, or toyo atII. I like the idea of additional "tire lift" with the 70.

 

It will work, looks way better.

 

Might have issues with front mud flaps

 

For what it’s worth, I’m running 265/70/17 Wildpeaks and have been looking at 17x9, -12 offset wheels as well. A few people have told me that size will rub and I’ll definitely need to remove front mud flaps, do some trimming, etc. Not sure what the deal would be with 265/65/17. I’d check in with Matt @Discount Tire, he’s a great resource for questions like this. Interested to hear how it all turns out for you as I’m in a similar boat.

 

I just PMed Matt. I'm going with the Yoko Geolandars. I have 2/1 lift in garage in box but I was hoping to get new wheels and tires installed before lift. I don't have mud flaps and I removed chin spoiler already. Its killing me having 4 new wheels sitting in garage!

"With regards to fitment, the 17x9 ET-12 is aggressive and even with the lift, you may rub the body mount with the 265/70R-17 sizes tires when the wheel is turned full lock. Unfortunately this is a hit or miss scenario as not all tires models are equal in size (like shoes) and not all Tacoma's sit exactly the same. If you do attempt this combo and the tires rub the body mount, adjusting the caster (positive) may eliminate it."

 

To be safe and avoid any hassle, I think I want to go with 265/65/17.

70 is 1.04" more diameter compared to 65. That's fairly significant when talking rub vs no rub.

 

What did you end up doing? Any rubbing?

 

General Grabber ATX 265/70/17. ZERO rubbing. 2/1 lift

 

I'm thinking of getting 265/70/17 with -12 offset and Falken Wildpeaks on my 2020 TRD Pro. Do you think it will rub? I have no front spoiler and no mudfaps. Do not want to do CMC.

 

I don't have a spoiler or flaps either. There's no way for me to know if I would have rubbed before the 2/1 lift. Other than the Fox coilovers on your Pro, I dont think there's any difference compared to a Sport.

My wheels are -12 also. Perfect look with 265/70 IMO. Trouble free!

Pull the trigger. You will be fine.

 

I think the Pro has a 1" lift over the others.

 

I recommend the General Grabber ATX. Lighter than the Wildpeaks (save MPG). Great look too! Not much more expensive either. A lot of people have had balancing issues with the Wildpeaks.
