I had my 2019 limited for 3 months now and have been doing some research on upgrades and modifications. I am aware of the aftermarket head units which more than likely be my first upgrade. My question is who has removed everything (head unit, speakers, amp, etc) and started over? It seems like the integration to use an aftermarket amp and head unit with the factory amp will be a huge pain? Does disconnecting the factory amp affect anything else besides the sound system?

This is my idea....replace the head unit with something powerful enough the push the door speakers, something like the alpine with the piggy back amp that mounts to the back of the head unit.I realize I'd have to re wire the door speakers to the head unit. Then I'd remove the factory amp and replace it for one for a new aftermarket amp and sub; or worse case a multi channel amp to power the door speakers.

Will this work or am i crazy?

If you're considering doing a full gut, I would wait and do the whole system at once, and not in baby steps like the radio first. The radio will need expensive wiring to integrate into the factory amp. But that expensive harness will be useless the minute you take out the factory amp.

I would skip the alpine amp you mentioned in this scenario and go with a 5 channel. Or if you like the powerpack, do the regular one and a subwoofer amp. All your speaker wires are back at the JBL amp, so no sense running more wires all up to the front when you can just mount an amp back where the JBL amp is.

Grab the APH-TY04 from PAC to make wiring up the new amp easy. This was you dont have to cut any factory wiring.

What the user above me said ^^^ do it all at once. No baby steps because it is easier to tackle it all at once rather than sit there and suffer like a few of us who have totally gone over it 20 times have done (including myself).

It's easy. Get your choice of headunit, speakers, subwoofer and sub box, then select the amp (if running a subwoofer, I would recommend 2 subs, one for the speakers and one exclusively for the sub)

Install all as needed, install the integration unit recommended above from PAC, One for the steering wheel volume integration, cut out the box which enables the JBL speaker wiring integration for the PAC unit, thereby allowing you to eliminate one of the two ridiculous bulky boxes it comes with. Then run RCAs in place of that stupid box for the speakers, should be 4 for that, then 2 for the sub. If keeping the sub in the factory area you can run them on the passenger side floor area. Boom boom boom. Easy peasy. This will eliminate all previous JBL wiring minus the critical stuff (powers, grounds, & remote turn on) and you can focus on tuning that stuff outside of the JBL harness and wiring assembly. It makes life SO much easier!

Sorry if I was not clear, absolutely if I do this it will be all at once. I realize it would be a lot of re work if not. I’ll look into the adapter you mentioned. Where does the adaptor plug into, the input or output of the factory amp?

    Never ending......$$$
Im about to do this also....pulling the whole factory jbl system out...head unit, speakers, jbl amp/sub, and hopefully most of the factory wiring.

I have an alpine halo9 head unit, idatalink mastero, alpine 5 channel amp, sub, and rear fill speakers. Just waiting to pick up my front speaker component system. Also going to sound deaden the doors and back wall.

Did this in my Gen2. First we tried just the deck so my wife could have a backup camera when I was deployed. Ruined the speaker sound, ended up replacing everything and it sounded WAY better.

Not sure about the 3rd gen JBL but the 2nd gen factory JBL system is complete garbage.

I am going this route in the spring. have upgraded all the door speakers to JBL aftermarket. Doing some sound/vibration isolation treatment too.
My wife has Audison speakers in her car and they are amazing. Amps are good too. The tuning software for the amp can be downloaded and then you can tweak the sound till the cows come home.
