I was made to believe they were made from dog shit, to bolster the open deck design along with Ecu management to improve gas mileage and neuter the engine. Damn. I guess that’s ONE good thing about the engine :D

Well maybe it’s forged dog shit but forged nonetheless! I was a bit surprised at the open deck design too but I’m not planning any forced induction so it should hold up.

My '16 MT, 3.5, AC gets 22 mpg or better here in the mountains consistantly, will go down some if going up FS roads to camp or cut firewood. Some stretches of road up to 27, 28, just isn't the average. 38,000 miles now, no issues, the tune would be nice I guess.

This little beauty has really caught my eye. The access cabs don't seem to be selling, maybe I can get a deal.

Can anyone with a 3rd gen access cab tell me about the road noise? I had a little 5 lug access cab, 2nd gen, and the road noise coming from the back was horrible. I always though it was coming from the rear doors.

We would get to the gas station at the same time.

If we were towing, you would win. But your mileage would take a massive shit. You would not be getting anywhere near the mpgs of a 4.

The 3.5 doesn’t magically unlock gasoline potential.

So answer me this. Is the engineered base numbers without the variables , just apples to apples comparison, does Toyota give honest or should I say accurate info on the specs page on the mpg difference between the two engines?

Toyota is honest enough. They don’t have to explain how they can publish 22mpg and 289 hp. You’re gonna have to figure that out on your own. But you don’t get both of those. It’s a little more complicated than the 4 banger.

I have a little over 2000 miles on the Taco now. My normal weekly run down to southern Arkansas has been giving about 21 mpg. Today I filled up with non ethanol premium and got 24 mpg! Impressive but not worth paying an extra 60 cents a gallon.

for the best mpg, I’ve found that running in S6 gives the best mileage.

I have a 2.7 with the 6speed auto. I’ve got 285/75r16 with stock gears. I haul my 4 wheeler (Honda foreman 500 on 30s) in the bed long distances with no issues climbing hills. I even have traveled through thick sugar sand with 4wd for a few miles with the 4wheeler in the bed. No issues.

the truck has no balls, but it won’t let you down. It does everything I need it to do. It runs great! More than happy with it being slow, still gets me to where I wanna be on time.

mpg with my mods : 18 city 21 highway consistently monitored by a tuned scan gauge.
