Wish I'd have seen it before pulling off the lot. Looking at it closer, looks like it wasn't intentional like a key. Still b.s.

I am told that if the scratch appears white it is only in the clear coat and can be buffed out.

When I had mine buffed out professionally they used 3M Perfect It kit products. Not cheap. Use the Makita sander polisher on low speed and keep moving. You may need high grit wet sandpaper too.

How long did that take? Did you use an orbital or go by hand?

Nice. I used the stuff for the first time last night actually, and it worked quite well for me too. Still thinking I want to get an orbital to speed the process up though. Im lazy AF.

Kind of random, but has anyone ever tried polishing out light scratches on their phone screen with this kind of stuff?

I wonder how well it'd work.

    That's not how it works.
Polishes and paint correction work because they even/smooth/wear out the edges of the clearcoat on scratches, making them hard to see. That is why if it is deep into or through the paint they don't work.

Scratches in glass won't even out.

My wife recently whacked one of those yellow poles at Walmart. There is a large area of yellow paint and scratches on the rear bumper of her Sienna. I used to work years back in a detail shop. I took some rubbing compound and my Mothers Speed ball that I use to clean aluminum wheels with and got all of it out except for a couple small scratches. Just don't burn the paint and if you can feel the scratch you wont get it out but you can make it not so noticeable.

Just make sure its dual action or else you can burn through on corners and stuff. Lots of times, you are actually removing paint from what you hit and not a scratch. Like if you hit a yellow pole and you have yellow on your car, you basically are just removing the paint from your paint if that makes sense. A good cleaner wax will do wonders. Just make sure everything is super clean before you start and don't rub to vigorously. You'll get hair on your palms.

Rule of thumb. If your fingernail catches, its most likely too deep to correct. Repainting may be the only option.

My fingernail did catch on them. I got some Meguiar's Ultimate Compound on Friday and lightly buffed it. It made it look at lot better. Its still visible if you look closely but overall no one will see it except me. That stuff works very well.

The only thing good able that repair is that the mess you create will be washed way soon enough.
